Where was this when Dead Space 3 was released? That's an important question when looking at DS3 's recently released DLC, Awakened , and one I'll get back to in a moment.

A strong story filled with scares; Offers the ending the game should have had; Co-op is still a highlight

This DLC should have been part of the main game; Very short for $10; Totally different tone from the rest of the game

Dead Space 3 is a pretty good addition to the franchise and, while it tries to respect the core of the series, quite a few of its additions don't really hit their targets, like the scavenging component or the co-op, to some degree.

Perhaps if poor Isaac Clarke had been able to switch parts with the late Isaac Hayes, Dead Space 3 might have been a bit less boring. At this point, we'd gladly throw in a few Chef-like wisecracks just to liven up the game a tad-might as well rename this one "Dull Space 3." We're exaggerating a...

Fun mini-game elements; comprehensive weapon customization; fun for walk-and-blast, undead-fighting gameplay; lovely in-game interface; lots to do

Difficulty seems imbalanced; scarcity (or abundance) of resources can be frustrating; not all that scary anymore; so-so storyline

The third installment of the Dead Space trilogy is upon us. We have journeyed along with Isaac Clarke and seen his horrors, both real and perceived, and how his fragile state of mind has been the cause of much of his anguish.

Controls will be familiar to Dead Space gamers; Music and sound effects set the tone perfectly

Less horror than in previous instalments; Linear gameplay for the main story

I wonder: with the threat of the Necromorphs theoretically dealt with, is the Dead Space franchise itself now just as dead? And should we be content with three games in a series, or do you want more?

If you haven't played Dead Space 3 yet, there will be SPOILERS here since Awakened takes place directly after  the end of the standard game. So if you're someone who hates SPOILERS , you should probably stop reading here and go finish Dead Space 3 already.

What threatens to kill Dead Space 3 is that it's so much easier to talk about what it isn't rather than what it is. It's not scary, it's not difficult, and it's not especially memorable; however, its artistry is lush, its action is proven, and its co-op is strong.

games. I feel that horror action games have fallen into a rut that combined cheap scares with limitations on controls or movement along with other bits of awkwardness that turn what could be a fun, thrilling experience into a tedious one.

Dead Space 3 is already out in stores now, in case you've missed the news. And you'd better hurry up and grab a copy quick, or suffer the wrath of plenty of friends and players who will be dying to talk about it.
