A few months back, word spread via the SNB Forums that D-Link's B1 update of its relatively inexpensive dual-band, dual-radio DIR-825 [ reviewed here ] used essentially the same core chipset as NETGEAR's high-performing WNDR3700 .

The D-Link DIR-825 is a Wi-Fi router with dual-band 802.11n support, broadcasting on the 2.4GHz and 5GHz frequencies simultaneously. It has a range of features useful for power users, and it is easy to set up.

Many home users have made the switch from 802.11g wireless to the faster and wider-reaching 802.11n. However, speed and coverage soon go down the drain when you throw in interference from nearby wireless networks.

The inclusion of dual-band 5GHz and 2.4GHz means the D-Link DIR-825 Wi-Fi router has a long broadcast range and few interference problems.

D-Link's DIR-825 is quite expensive, but you get a lot for your money. For starters, it has a Gigabit Ethernet switch, so you can share files at lightning speed over a wired network.

We tested the DIR-825 in both frequencies that it supports and found mixed performance. On our maximum throughput test, the router did well for itself in registering 102.4Mbps and 70.2Mbps for 5GHz and 2.4GHz frequencies, respectively.

Large performance hit with 2.4GHz

The router seems to want to go through it's reboot page every time you change ANY setting on the firmware side. This is annoying when you need to play around with settings to get something to work, and something that other firmware doesn't do. Not so much an issue, but it was annoying.

Does what the product advertises; has a lot of nice small features for the price; signal is awesome through a 3 story house

I had some trouble setting the router up on first install; When I swapped the internal IP of the router, it's DHCP died for about 10 minutes; It also stopped responding to any input from a static IP on the network despite resets.

Overall a good value router with some nice features. As shipped, the firmware had an issue with an ADSL connection and it would not stay connected. This required installing an old router and getting a newer version of firmware that addressed the issue.
