This is one of the best speedlights I have ever owened. Built quality is extraordinary, light output is amazing. I recommend this unit for indoor /event photography.
Powerful; fast recycling
bulky
The Canon Speedlite 600EX-RT flash represents a significant new release for Canon photographers, most specifically for those using off-camera flash. A very capable and reliable flash on its own, its real forte is when used as the heart of a radio-controlled flash system.
The radio system lets you easily control all your flashes from the camera with some using TTL and some on manual and even switch modes without having to touch the flash. It's just amazing.
Supports both radio and optical triggering, so if you have the 400EXII's you can slowly convert over without having to buy a radio transmitter on day one; Great power and good batteries will last for quite a while

I am still learning, having shadow issues
Lightweight; Powerful Output
This is the 3rd one of these I've bought along with the ST-E3 controller, that should tell you something right there! It's great that all 3 are adjustable right from the camera.
RADIO CONTROL
A little pricey; but worth it
Canon 600EX RT (18.7 oz./529g with 4-AA eneloop cells, 2.5 second measured recycle time, measured ISO 100 guide number of 29 meters/95 feet at 35mm, rated guide number 36m/118' at 35mm, 20-200mm zoom head with 14mm wide panel and catchlight card, about $470 new ).
Daunting is sitting down at the keyboard to attempt to do justice to a review of Canon's flagship flash, the Speedlite 600EX-RT. Few aspects of an image are as important as the lighting – arguably being second only to the subject and perhaps the composition?
Amazing Flash, don't be fooled. this flash is the cream of the crop, so don't settle for anything less. if you do, its your own fault. lighting is the the key element to photos, so why would you go with anything less then the best?
I use flash for low-light portraits and product photography. This superb unit has everything I need and more. Several weeks after acquiring it I am still discovering its incredible flexibility, and you could be forgiven for assuming the controls will be complex.
