Canon's 16x SX160 IS gives beginners control

The Canon PowerShot SX160 IS is not for everyone. It's big and bulky. It doesn't have the best shooting performance or image quality. And it certainly doesn't have all the latest and greatest features found in many of Canon's higher-end PowerShots. But, here's why I like it.
Pros:
  • The Canon PowerShot SX160 IS has a large selection of shooting options from full manual to full auto
  • big, easy-to-press controls
  • and the convenience of AA batteries
Cons:
  • The SX160 IS will eat through alkaline batteries
  • shooting performance is good, but not fast
  • and picture quality drops off above ISO 400, so it's not a great choice for handheld low-light shots

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS review

Sometimes budget precedes all else. Often that would put a Canon compact camera out of the purchase picture. But not so with the Canon PowerShot SX160 IS: this £140 budget compact not only has the price on its side, but also comes equipped with a wide-ranging zoom that can capture wide scenes or...
Pros:
  • Wide-ranging zoom
  • affordable
  • manual modes
  • reasonable autofocus
Cons:
  • Screen viewing angle
  • AA batteries
  • body size

Canon PowerShot SX160IS

This is a camera that a proportion of the users will love as it uses ‘AA' batteries. It looks almost basic in its design however it offers a decent zoom and a large image size yet it is small enough to fit inside the majority of pockets.

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS Review

The 16 megapixel PowerShot SX160 IS bridges the gap between Canon's entry-level point-and-shoot digital cameras and the premium travel compacts. The former, lacking a large zoom range and full manual controls, are priced under Rs 10,000 and the travel compacts (SX240 HS and SX 240 HS) that pack...

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS review Review

It's easy to criticise an entry-level camera like this when you judge it on the same basis as something three or more times the price, so it's important to bear in mind that the SX160 IS costs just £165.
Pros:
  • Low cost
  • Long zoom
  • High resolution
  • Manual control options
Cons:
  • Low maximum sensitivity
  • Takes AA batteries
  • not a rechargable one
  • Noise at middling sensitivities

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS

Canon has a long standing history of producing great cameras, one of which was 2009's Powershot SX120 IS. Since then, this point and shoot line has seen several upgrades, every year in August.
Pros:
  • Excellent focal length range with smooth zoom
  • Runs on AA batteries
  • Dedicated button for raising flash
Cons:
  • Plastic construction is obvious
  • Not much of an improvement in image quality from SX150 IS

Canon SX160 (No IS)

Its a good cam for the day trips. Good image quality, excellent video output (even though auto focusing is not up to the mark), ideal cam for day time trips. Cons: - Image quality is very low under low light. - Can not make a photo shoot of a stage performance (If stage is covered with light).
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
  • Good Image Quality
  • Small / Compact
Cons:
  • No Viewfinder
  • Poor Image Stabilization

not as good as previous canons

I own an EOS350 rebel xt(love it), an A520, and had a A1000IS(loved it) until it was stolen. Replaced the A1000IS w/ this model. The auto mode shooting is poor. Even the slightest motion in the subject comes out blurry, never happened former model.
Pros:
  • good battery life
  • Simple controls/menu
Cons:
  • Poor image quality

Takes nice photos if the photo card works.

I urgently needed a new camera and thought this would be a nice replacement for my old Canon. I tried using my old card when I got it and got an error message regarding the card soon after using it. So I started using the card that came with the camera - which is NOT a Canon card.
