Takes nice photos if the photo card works.

I urgently needed a new camera and thought this would be a nice replacement for my old Canon. I tried using my old card when I got it and got an error message regarding the card soon after using it. So I started using the card that came with the camera - which is NOT a Canon card.

Canon's 16x SX160 IS gives beginners control

The Canon PowerShot SX160 IS is not for everyone. It's big and bulky. It doesn't have the best shooting performance or image quality. And it certainly doesn't have all the latest and greatest features found in many of Canon's higher-end PowerShots. But, here's why I like it.
Pros:
  • The Canon PowerShot SX160 IS has a large selection of shooting options from full manual to full auto
  • big, easy-to-press controls
  • and the convenience of AA batteries
Cons:
  • The SX160 IS will eat through alkaline batteries
  • shooting performance is good, but not fast
  • and picture quality drops off above ISO 400, so it's not a great choice for handheld low-light shots

A Great Camera

I recently got the SX160 IS, not from Flipkart though. The camera looks awesome. It's a bit heavier than you'd expect probably because it has this large lens with an optical image stabilizer. It works like a charm. The manual settings are just amazing.

Great camera & interface, AA battery life still an issue

Until Canon gets it together & fixes it's battery sensor so that perfectly good AA batteries are not seen by its cameras as discharged, I can't give this item 5 stars. That said, I'm incredibly impressed by the SX160 user interface, usability & functionality.

KEEP OUT - a FILM camera would be a better choice :)

The camera will take decent pictures if you wait for it to: 1. Raise flash 2. Subject stops moving 3. Get in focus Since in reality that 97% of photos are not taken this way, this camera has fundamental issues.
Pros:
  • The camera will take decent pictures if you wait for it to: 1
  • Raise flash 2
  • Subject stops moving 3
  • Get in focus Since in reality that 97% of photos are not taken this way, this camera has fundamental issues.
Cons:
  • This camera takes bad photos and non-HD-like videos
  • Blurry photos are the norm, and blurry ones are the default

Canon PowerShot SX160 IS review

Sometimes budget precedes all else. Often that would put a Canon compact camera out of the purchase picture. But not so with the Canon PowerShot SX160 IS: this £140 budget compact not only has the price on its side, but also comes equipped with a wide-ranging zoom that can capture wide scenes or...
Pros:
  • Wide-ranging zoom
  • affordable
  • manual modes
  • reasonable autofocus
Cons:
  • Screen viewing angle
  • AA batteries
  • body size

Don't buy this camera.

This was my fifth Canon camera since 2003. This camera is an EPIC DISAPPOINTMENT. 95% of pictures (and videos) we took are blurry. bad. real bad. very slow to recharge flash, and takes forever to get in focus. If camera holder moves (or subject moves) then picture will come out blurry.
Pros:
  • Easy To Use
Cons:
  • Lag / Shutter Delay
  • Poor Image Quality
  • Poor Image Stabilization
  • Short Battery Life

After receiving the camera I found it very easy to use. It does use up AA batteries quickly and the flash takes a while to charge up, whcih will cause a missed shot it you do not plan it. But the easy, size, functions, and price and excellent. Received it after ording within 3 days.
