Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III

The Canon G7X Mark III, is the 3rd generation of the G7 camera in Canon's PowerShot G series. Its predecessor is G7X Mark II.

It was announced on the 8th of July 2019. It is available in two colors: black and silver.

This camera has some upgrades to its video capabilities. It sports a stacked CMOS sensor with Canon's DiGIC 8 processor instead of DiGIC 7 that its predecessor uses. Furthermore, it can record 4K videos, while the G7X II model can't. It has a Microphone jack, something that its predecessor lacks. It also can shoot 1080p videos at up to 120 fps frame rate, but its previous camera only possesses a maximum of 60 fps.

Please note that this camera has no 24p video recording and lacks a headphone jack and a viewfinder.

Canon PowerShot G7X III review

The PowerShot G7X Mark III updates Canon's most popular high-end compact with some unexpected features which will delight videographers and vloggers in particular. It keeps the earlier 24-100mm lens and much the same body and controls, but beefs-up the display mechanism for vloggers who casually...

Canon PowerShot G7 X III initial review: Designed for vloggers

Adds 3.5mm microphone input - useful for vloggers; Adds 4K video shooting capabilities; Impressive image quality from new 1-inch sensor;

It's a lot pricier than previous model; Autofocus lacks complexity of some competitors; 3.5mm mic input not useful for the masses;

Canon G7X Mark III Review

The G7X Mark III is a great little camera with bags of features and charm. It's a pocket-friendly shooter with a one-inch sensor, great image and video quality, and a host of features that appeal to both stills and video shooters. At £700 it’s not cheap, so if you’re on a budget, check out the older model if you don’t need the advanced video features.

Great video features; Pocket friendly; Manual controls and Raw format shooting;

No viewfinder; 4K not available in manual/semi-automatic modes; No hotshoe or cold shoe for external accessories; No headphone socket;

Tempting with mic jack + clean HDMI for occasional lecture recording and faster RAW shooting I have finally upgraded from my favorite pocket camera to it's 3rd generation. Here are my observations after couple of days.

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III review

Canon's pocket-sized Powershot is now better for video, better in low light and even better for blogging...

4K video with no crop; Flip up screen for vlogging; Live streaming capability

No eyelevel viewfinder; Quite pricey

Canon PowerShot G7 X Mark III review

The PowerShot G7 X Mark III faces some strong competition from the likes of Sony and Panasonic, but with a longer-than-usual lens, great handling and a whole suite of niceties for videographers, it succeeds in offering enough to warrant its place in a populated section of the market.

Great handling and build quality; Effective face detection; Responsive and clear touchscreen; Mic port is a very nice touch; Very effective image stabilization; Nice colors in images;

No hotshoe for external mics; No built-in viewfinder; Slightly aggressive noise reduction; AF system a little dated; Overexposure frequently occurs
