Canon EOS 77D Review

The 77D is a Rebel T7i in fancy clothes, but that might be enough for the right user.

Fair amount of direct access control; Great 45-point AF system; Dual Pixel Autofocus in live-view; Good image quality; Nice handgrip

Small viewfinder; Low capacity battery; 1080p video is showing its age

Went from an EOS 450d to this, a big difference in image quality, smooth with the swivel screen that has good sharpness and color rendering. The Wi-Fi features do not work any further, much layers. Too bad it's not weatherproof and the battery life could have been longer. Also missing audio output.

Canon EOS 77D

Instead of following up the fantastic EOS Rebel T6s with a T7s, Canon has decided to call its successor the 77D ($899.99, body only), separating it from the Rebel line so enthusiasts will pay more attention.

24MP APS-C image sensor; 45-point cross-type autofocus system; 6fps burst shooting; Dual Pixel AF in Live View; Vari-angle touch LCD; Top information display; Wi-Fi

Video limited to 1080p; Pentamirror viewfinder

Canon EOS 77D review: DSLR megastar, or one model number too far?

You've probably heard it time and again: " cameras are dying". Well, not if Canon has anything to do with it. The Japanese camera maker seems to be investing in a DSLR for every user level, with the latest EOS 77D fitting into the range beneath its 80D mid-ranger to carve out a new sub-category for...

Much of the 80D's spec at a lower price; great through-the-finder autofocus system; screen-based live view is great for a DSLR camera (especially with vari-angle screen); exemplary image quality

Lacks 100% optical viewfinder; no weather-sealing (as per 80D); screen-based live view isn't as precise as through-the-viewfinder; finish looks plasticky; no 4K video

Canon EOS 77D review

The EOS 77D is a very capable DSLR, but it's a hard camera to get excited about. Don't get us wrong, it does a lot of things well: image quality is very good, while the Live View performance is the best we've seen in a DSLR.

Decent 45-point AF system; Live view AF performance; Touchscreen control; AF-On button; Excellent image quality

No 4K video capture; Plasticky finish; Viewfinder only 95; Burst shooting speed

What's in a name? The EOS 77D may, at first glance, appear to be a new entry for Canon to slot between their Rebel T7i and EOS 80D. But dig a little deeper into the specifications and you'll see that the differentiators between the 77D and the Rebel T7i are about as significant as those between the...

Canon EOS 77D

Canon's EOS 77D, which was announced in February 2017 sits between the EOS 80D and the slightly lower-featured model, the EOS 800D, which was announced at the same time. Both models have the same 22.3 x 14.9 mm CMOS sensor with 25.8 million photosites (24.2 megapixels effective) plus a built-in low...

Canon EOS 77D

A couple of years ago, Canon added two similar models to its EOS line-up in the form of the EOS 750D and EOS 760D . At the time, we questioned the manufacturer's rationale behind creating two cameras with near-identical specifications.

Comprehensive set of features; Spritely autofocus in and out of live view; Guided interface to aid DSLR newbies; Effective in-body electronic stabilisation for movies

No weather sealing; In-camera JPEG processing suppresses detail; More expensive than competition
