The announcement of any Canon DSLR usually creates a lot of excitement, but when that camera launches a new sensor with a new pixel count (for the manufacturer) and is aimed at enthusiast photographers, it ups the ante considerably.

Canon EOS 70D review – mirrorless ILC, evolved
One of the latest introductions to the series is the EOS 70D – the direct successor to the popular 60D and an amazingly versatile camera that can easily compare or even replace the more expensive EOS 7D (which is placed right above the 70D in the product lineup).

Canon EOS 70D
If I had to pick a do-everything-well APS-C format camera that does not cost a fortune, the Canon EOS 70D would be my recommendation. This camera has it all - great image quality with high resolution, a great AF system, a moderately large viewfinder, a fast/responsive shutter release combined with a...

[REVIEW-CANON EOS 70D]
This 20 megapixel camera uses dual pixel technology, designed to improve auto-focus performance in live view mode. The idea is to incorporate phase detection – the focus method used by DSLRs – and contrast detection – the method in compact cameras – into the one camera.

Canon EOS 70D camera review
The development of the APS sensor digital single-lens reflex has reached the point where further improvement comes in small steps. In the 70D it is the arrangement of the light receptors on the sensor that is different, the benefits of which might not be immediately apparent to users.
Pros:
- Image quality is excellent, with brilliant resolution, colour and dynamic range
- The image-stabilised lens, although made down to a price, performs well mechanically and optically
Cons:
- The kit lens
- as good as it is
- does display marked distortion at both the wide and telephoto extremes

Canon EOS 70D review
Canon has produced a very well rounded camera for enthusiast photographers. It has all the specifications that we expect, along with a few modern niceties in a body that feels well made and comfortable in the hand.

The Canon EOS 70D really is the "game changer" that Canon claims. Its new sensor and DIGIC 5+ processor really take it to new heights with outstanding performance, image quality and new video capabilities. It is well worth the money for a first or upgraded dSLR camera.
Pros:
- iAuto shooting mode is accurate and easy in all situations
- Overall image quality is excellent
- Live View AF is much faster than other dSLR cameras
- Continuous AF works great for stills and video
- 3.0-inch touch LCD is one of the easiest and most accurate to use
- Outstanding shooting performance,...
Cons:
- Higher ISO settings were still very noisy
- Just one memory card slot
- Some aberrations in high contrast areas
