Canon EOS 5D Mark III review

The 22.3-megapixel Canon EOS 5D Mark III captured some of the cleanest images I've seen from a DSLR when shooting in low light at high ISOs. That's no small feat. Cameras such as the 5D Mark III's predecessor -- the 5D Mark II -- and the 16.2MP Nikon D4 , are designed as low-light assassins, with...
Pros:
  • In-camera HDR
  • "Silent" shooting mode
  • Rank photos in-camera with one to five stars
  • 61-point (41-cross-type-point) autofocus
Cons:
  • Only slightly more resolution than four-year-old previous model
  • Starting price much higher than predecessor
  • Built-in mic only offers mono sound

Excellent camera, I upgraded from a 600D to have full frame and be able to shoot things at ISO 6400 with no problems (and 12500 in case of extreme emergency) is wonderful. Have had it in the rain and no problems at all, nice to have two memory slots if you're shooting a wedding and suddenly ran out...

Canon EOS 5D MK III

After Nikon's D90, it felt like the crown of video would go to that firm. But, surprisingly, it was Canon that swooped in, and hoovered up the newly established video-from-SLR market.
Pros:
  • Stills are beautiful
  • capable of producing superb video
  • lightning-fast auto-focus
  • rapid shooting
  • solidly built
Cons:
  • No "clean" HDMI output
  • buttons to control camera settings take some getting used to
  • we'd love to see some more high frame-rate modes

  • Auto focus
  • Menu
  • Button Layout
  • Low light
  • New video codec
Cons:
  • 6 fps too slow for sports
  • The zoom button location

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Review: Going Pro

On paper, the Canon 5D Mark III may not seem like a huge step up from the 5D Mark II especially given all the rumors (and long-time anticipation) surrounding its release. In some ways, the Mark III on the surface doesn't dazzle with additional bells and whistles or even any huge leap forward in...
Pros:
  • Excellent photo/video quality
  • Excellent build quality
  • Advanced 61 point AF system
Cons:
  • Best image quality from Raw (vs

I'm often asked the not unreasonable question, "So which is the best camera?" to which my answer recently has been one stolen from professional photographic lore: "The best camera is the one you have with you when a great picture presents itself.

Canon EOS 5D Mark III Review

The 5D Mark III is one of Canon's premier full-frame DSLRs, and for this reason, it's strange to see it lag behind the competition. Despite its shortcomings in sensor tests, battery life and additional features, it remains a good option for professional photographers – especially those with a...
Pros:
  • This camera offers more cross-type focus points than most
Cons:
  • Dynamic range is relatively poor at just 11.7 Evs
