Nice all in one
I have even used this lens on my 7D and have shot unbelievable photos with it. It is absolutely a fantastic lens for the price. Half the price of L-glass of equivalent quality. Besides what others have said, this is a great, sturdy lens. Works fantastic even in less light. Nice all in one.
Pros:
- Wide zoom range
- fast quiet focus
- image stabilizer
- 67mm
- nice walk around and nice focus range even for video
Cons:
- Not a f2.8, not 800 dollars Not 77mm No optional extras (lens hood, UV filter) So get them
- Heavy compared to kit lens and a lot larger, good construction usually is

"First lens :)"
I purchased my 17-85mm when I got my Canon 60D last November, at the time the current selling price of the lens alone was £350, it offers the same specification as the Canon 18-55mm and that the same of any kit lens including the Nikon 18-55mm, being F3.5-5.6, up close the lens is big, heavy, has a...
Pros:
- 67mm thread
- Metal Mount
- Strong
- middle focusing ring
Cons:
- no lens hood included

Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM review
The first step up Canon's ladder of standard zoom lenses, at least from the kit lens supplied with the 550D and 600D , is the EF-S 17-85mm. It's better built, with a much sturdier feel than the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS kit lens for those cameras.

Canon EF-S 17-85mm f/4-5.6 IS USM review by makcv113
I put image quality for both Pro and Con just because it isn't that good but also isn't that bad. I use this as a street/walkaround lens. The only lens I would get to replace this is the Canon EF-S 15-85mm.
Pros:
- IS
- zoom range
- image quality
Cons:
- image quality
- poorly built
- F4 aperture

A tank that can do almost everything
I have had this lens for almost 6 years and it is my best friend! It lived in Germany with me for 3.5 years as I traveled all over Europe and even into the sandy environment of Egypt. This lens is a great walkabout lens that can do almost everything, in my opinion.
Pros:
- Consistent Output
- Durable
- Rugged
- Strong Construction

I have spoons that are sharper...
Firstly, let me tell you that I'm a Canon nut. I can't get enough of the stuff and embarrassingly, I've even been known to trawl a popular online auction site to buy apparel that's adorned with the Canon insignia, in that oh so recognisable font. However, I'm not on their payroll.
