I bought this lens specifically for macro photography. I have been using this lens for a month now on my Canon T 3i. I find this lens to have a very cheap feel to it and I don't think it would take much abuse. Thats ok because with the low cost of the lens it could easily be replaced.- Consistent Output

A great starter prime lens.
This is an ideal lens for the user looking to get into prime lenses. It's plastic, so it's obviously not as durable as a tank metal lens, but it's also priced to be affordable.- video production

This is an excellent little prime for those wanting a good amount of depth and bokeh. The lens captures light excellently. The build quality is ok, though it seems the body is made of plastic. This does keep the weight very minimal overall.

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II (Full Format) - Review / Test Report
At just 130g it is an ultra light-weight lens and with a size of 68x41mm it's also extremely compact. The build quality is sufficient to use a positive phrase. The lens barrel is made of plastic down to the mount. All-in-all you feel the price tag here.
