Best lens I ever bought

This is the cheapest lens I own and yet it's the one I use the most! Great for portrait work and low light situations! The 1.8 aperture gives great background blur.

Great investment for the price

I love this lens. I've been using it for almost 3 years and haven't had any issues with it. I've used it to take pictures of my design work, and for taking pictures of my baby. It has a great depth of field. Sooo good for the price

I really enjoy the 1.8 aperture for portrait photography. I should have done research on the fact that my camera is a cropped sensor so the 50mm ends up being 80 or so but the lense is still great value for money

Simple first prime lens

This was the first lens I bought (aside from the kit lens), because I was reading reviews on prime lenses and how the 'nifty fifty' was essential for every Canon photographer. This lens is really compact, but not very well built.
Pros:
  • Super-sharp images

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II

A great lens to start with. Sharpness and colors are excellent. My lens is sharp at the center even at 1.8 if you can nail the focus, although it does have some dreamy effect. With an APS-C -if you have a full frame you will probably be able to afford the 1.4- the equivalent focal lenght is around...
Pros:
  • Sharp
  • cheap
  • lightweight
Cons:
  • Plasticky
  • sometimes misses focusing at 1.8
  • rounded shaped bokeh highlights only at 1.8
