Among Canon devices you can find the more expensive EF 50 mm ff/1.4 USM and the cheaper Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II along with the macro Canon EF 2.5/50 Compact Macro Standard and the horribly expensive EF 50 mm f/1.2L USM L-series lens. The cheap 1.8/50 model is a real treat for the beginners.- excellent image quality in the frame centre (apart from the maximum relative aperture)

You get what you pay for
It's not a bad lens, especially considering that it costs just about a C-Note. It looks good and delivers some solid shots. However handle this thing like it was an egg. The first one I had, the front just popped off in my camera bag. The second?- cheap

Great lens at a great price
All I can say is this lens is a steal in this price bracket. Gives very sharp pictures with my Canon 550D. Perfect for low light photography where you do not need to zoom close to your subject. Focussing is accurate and fast. Great lens at a great price.- Consistent Output

Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Review
The Canon 50mm f/1.8 II has fantastically good optics, better than Canon's "L" series wide lenses like the 16-35mm f/2.8 L II .
Cheap as chips this is my simply awesome plastic fantastic, use your body as the zoom walk forwards or backwards to frame subject or object, sharp focus and blur out the background easy and cheap as, a must have for beginners like myself.

A great lens to start with. Sharpness and colors are excellent. My lens is sharp at the center even at 1.8 if you can nail the focus, although it does have some dreamy effect. With an APS-C -if you have a full frame you will probably be able to afford the 1.4- the equivalent focal lenght is around...- Sharp

Good Cheap Lens
This lens should be in every photographers bag, whether serious or hobbyist. Great lens and for the price, you cannot beat it. One thing tho is the build is very "Plastic Like" but for the price you should not expect it to be built like an L lens.- Consistent Output

I debated about purchasing this lens becuase of the plastic build quality, but I have been amazed at the sharpness and quality of the pictures - particularly for portraits. The super fast F1.8 lets you get that nice, short depth of field & bokeh, without spending $$$$.- tack sharp

This lens obviously isn't going to have the build quality of a l lens. However, the clarity from this lens is outstanding! If youre considering buying this lens, just buy it! You wont regret it, its great for portraits and has amazing low light capabilities, also great optics :)
