Bigger isn't better, but I can deal with the size!

I received the Canon CanoScan 5600F scanner as a gift for mother's day.

Canon Canoscan 5600F Scanner [REVIEW]

Looking over my shoulder recently, I was surprised at how much I have come to depend on a scanner. Early on, I had a love/hate relationship with desktop scanners, mainly because of their early and fiddly operating software. And don't bring up the topic of dedicated film scanners!

Good buy - happy with purchase

Bought this scanner to replace an old, old one. I was amazed at how fast it scans documents and photos. Really like the negative scan ability. Overall a good value and I would recommend for a home/home office.

Canon CanoScan 5600F

Any flatbed scanner is technically suitable for all-purpose scanning, since you can scan anything on it. But some are clearly targeted more for some uses than others. A case in point is the Canon CanoScan 5600F ($149.99 direct), which focuses on photos, and does its job well enough to deliver...

Scans only four slides or one strip of film at a time; Dust and scratch removal feature does little for scratches

Canon Scanner

Expected more of the software, but still a big fan.

Very practical; only USB

The software is so crap.

Canon CanoScan CS5600F

Although not top of the range, the CanoScan CS5600F is a well-specified flatbed scanner with an attractive price tag and could appeal to everyday consumers who need to scan both reflective originals (such as documents and prints) and images on film.

You need a low-priced, general-purpose scanner for copying documents and prints, You want a scanner the kids can use, You have high-quality original print images to scan; Don't buy this scanner if, You have lots of film images to scan; (It will take ages with this scanner.

Does what it's supposed to do

I used this to scan 35mm slides, 35mm color negatives and color slides, as well as 110mm color negatives (although this isn't part of the specifications). In order to scan 110mm negatives and have better control of the scanner's resolution and advanced features, you need to use the "Scanner Driver"...

Accurate Color; Easy Setup; Good Bit Depth; Good Resolution

Good but software needs refinements.

Shortcut buttons for pdf functions lead to screens with confusing results. You're better off going through the program button on the dock.

Easy To Set Up; Good Resolution

Poor Software

Better than the small handheld scanners

Does a good job with prints or slides, scans of negatives are overexposed and washed out. I bought 2 of these and the both do the same thing. Print scanner software is great and auto crops prints. The organizer software is clumsey and convoluted.

I purchased this mainly to scan 35mm negatives. My negatives are badly curled and don't want to fit into the supplied holder. I positioned a strip of negatives under the holder and held them in place while removing the holder. I put two strips of masking tape to mark the position of the negatives.
