Yes it boils water! But every time you touch the thing it beeps loudly. You turn it on it beeps, you press a button it beeps, when it finishes boiling it beeps, when you pick it up it beeps, when you put it down it beeps. It beeps beeps beeps. When you are making a coffee at 4am, the rest of the family will be unimpressed, not to mention the neighbours. Do not buy this product!

Was impressed with its features and speed in boiling my only hate about it is the sight glass as filling it up which is located behind handle can't see it with knuckles in way not like most kettles with sight glass on side like other brands sorry if sound unsatisfied but truth
