With their QuietComfort Earbuds, Bose are seeking to demonstrate that even in the cable-free class, True Wireless in-ears are extremely effective at reducing noise and delivering high-quality sound. We test whether they actually manage it.

Since the inception of the QuietComfort brand, Bose has been the leader in noise-cancelling headphones and earphones. But the QuietComfort Earbuds are in uncharted territory for QC products, as they enter a category that already has an established leader—the $249 Apple AirPods Pro—a role Bose has typically played in the past. And at $279.95, the QuietComfort Earbuds must not only sound fantastic in order to compete with the AirPods Pro, they need to offer noise cancellation that's just as good or slightly better in order to justify the $30 premium. While bulky and not overly stuffed with features, Bose’s new QuietComfort buds offer a good fit, a premium-looking design, clear sound, and powerful noise cancellation that's easily adjustable. I have no doubt these will be a popular choice for travelers and those who work from home alike.

Their bulkier-than-average design and the ridiculously large case will no doubt put some people off, especially when the latter’s size doesn’t mean superior battery life. But otherwise the QC Earbuds are difficult to knock. The noise-cancelling doesn’t do a disservice to the esteemed QC name, it’s hugely customisable, and the buds sound great too. They’re at the upper end of the spectrum where price is concerned, but if silence is what you seek from your true wireless earbuds, you currently won’t find better.
