Bose QuietComfort Earbuds - SoapStone 831262-0020 review

The true wireless Bose QuietComfort Earbuds offer strong audio performance and the most effective noise cancellation we've tested in the category to date.

Best-in-class noise cancellation; Rich; crisp; balanced audio; Transparent listening mode can blend with ANC mode; Secure fit; Splash-resistant build

Expensive; Sound signature isn't for purists; Bulky case; On-ear controls could be more complete

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds - SoapStone 831262-0020 review

With their QuietComfort Earbuds, Bose are seeking to demonstrate that even in the cable-free class, True Wireless in-ears are extremely effective at reducing noise and delivering high-quality sound. We test whether they actually manage it.

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds Review

Since the inception of the QuietComfort brand, Bose has been the leader in noise-cancelling headphones and earphones. But the QuietComfort Earbuds are in uncharted territory for QC products, as they enter a category that already has an established leader—the $249 Apple AirPods Pro—a role Bose has typically played in the past. And at $279.95, the QuietComfort Earbuds must not only sound fantastic in order to compete with the AirPods Pro, they need to offer noise cancellation that's just as good or slightly better in order to justify the $30 premium. From an audio standpoint, both pairs offer solid sound quality with rich bass and sculpted highs. As for ANC (active noise cancellation), the QuietComfort Earbuds offer the best we’ve heard in this category to date, edging out the AirPods Pro to earn our Editors' Choice for noise-cancelling true wireless earbuds.Design Available in beige or black designs, the QuietComfort Earbuds feature bulky, but lightweight, earpieces. Bose QuietComfort Earbuds - SoapStone 831262-0020 review

These 'buds keep ambient noise at bay, while the comfort is supreme for a pair of in-ears. Add that to sound that'll make all your favourite songs sound amazing, and it's hard to think of a more complete pair of true wireless in-ears in terms pure music enjoyment.

Great noise-cancelling; Fantastic sound quality; Fit is secure and comfortable for long periods; Wireless charging case an added bonus

Design is quite chunky; Case could offer more charge

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds - SoapStone 831262-0020 review

While bulky and not overly stuffed with features, Bose’s new QuietComfort buds offer a good fit, a premium-looking design, clear sound, and powerful noise cancellation that's easily adjustable. I have no doubt these will be a popular choice for travelers and those who work from home alike.

Class leading noise canceling; Comfy; secure fit; Tight; present audio

Chunky design; Case has mediocre battery

The new champ of ANC wireless earbuds

Noise-cancelling as good as you’d expect from Bose; 11 levels of ANC in the app; Good seal; Bassy but balanced listen

Touch controls initially confusing; and no volume slider; Case is enormous

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds review

Their bulkier-than-average design and the ridiculously large case will no doubt put some people off, especially when the latter’s size doesn’t mean superior battery life. But otherwise the QC Earbuds are difficult to knock. The noise-cancelling doesn’t do a disservice to the esteemed QC name, it’s hugely customisable, and the buds sound great too. They’re at the upper end of the spectrum where price is concerned, but if silence is what you seek from your true wireless earbuds, you currently won’t find better.

Bose QuietComfort Earbuds - SoapStone 831262-0020 review

Bose took its sweet time making wireless earbuds with noise-cancellation. But the Bose QuietComfort Earbuds are finally available and, well, they're fantastic.
