BlackBerry Playbook OS 2.0 Review

To say that RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook has been a sore spot for the company would be an understatement. In our initial review, we chided the PlayBook's lack of basic features, such as a native email client, as well as its buggy software. And we weren't alone.

BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 review

When we reviewed the BlackBerry PlayBook back in April , we couldn't help feeling the device's insides didn't match its outsides. The PlayBook is a well-built, good-looking device, but its software was buggy, frustrating, and frankly unfinished.

Much improved performance; Email; calendar; contacts apps are finally native; Smart UI enhancements

Still some bugs; particularly with scrolling; Android app selection is weak; Email app could be better

BlackBerry PlayBook OS 2.0 Review

You might not recall, but when the BlackBerry PlayBook came out last year it was close - oh, so close - to being a respectable iPad competitor . But the omission of native email, calendars and contacts was a fatal flaw , both for reviewers and the buying public .

Review BlackBerry Playbook WiFi 16GB Tablet/MID

The BlackBerry PlayBook looks like an alien at first glance. While Android is becoming very fashionable at the moment and the apps for it are emerging fast, RIM's tablet is on the shelves with the proprietary operating system, BlackBerry Tablet OS 1.0 .

Handy size, Stable case, Brilliant colors / good contrast, Bright TFT for outdoors, HDMI video out, Long battery life, Operating concept, The control concept with swiping over the lateral edges; The super bright screen is a knockout

Only 12 month manufacturer warranty; Time Out can't be disabled; No virtual environment for Android apps; No email client; No SD card slot; A timeout of more than five minutes

BlackBerry PlayBook 4G LTE

It was quite a long time coming, but after 1.5 years the BlackBerry PlayBook 4G LTE tablet finally got released to the market. It doesn't differ much from its non-4G LTE-enabled counterpart but that's not necessarily a bad thing.

BlackBerry PlayBook review: RIM's BlackBerry PlayBook tablet offers a refreshing interface, but lacks native e-mail support and offers little incentive for non-BlackBerry users

PlayBook may be an odd name for BlackBerry's first tablet, but RIM's 7in PlayBook offers a refreshing interface and smooth performance that live up to its name. However, beyond the great multitasking and intuitive UI, the PlayBook holds little appeal for non-BlackBerry smartphone users.

Great software; multitasking and slick UI; Excellent performance; Comfortable size for travelling and commuting

No native calendar; e-mail or contacts apps (yet; Limited selection of apps in App World; Not much appeal for non-BlackBerry users

The BlackBerry PlayBook: A Working Review

The PlayBook might be the ultimate diamond in the rough. It features fantastic hardware and great stock features, but with a disappointing app selection and a handful of weird bugs thrown into the mix. I can't recommend this tablet to the average consumer at its $499 entry price.

+Great form factor; +Fast and very powerful multi-tasking; +Excellent camera and file storage

-Terrible at sharing media; -Buggy browser and mixed flash support; -No meaningful app selection

One of the best

Best screen for a 7 inch, never seen one better yet. Best sound, with two real FRONT speakers for stereo (Ipad: crappy mono) Easy to use, factory loaded with all you could need to watch movies, listen music, surf, email, work. Many free games on the appstore.

With its business focus, RIM could well be onto a tablet winner with the Blackberry Playbook -- bring on the apps.
