Cinematic action

Everyone who likes to play immersive cinematic action games like Heavy Rain was and Beyond: Two Souls obviously is, will cherish the gameplay of this new encounter. The storytelling in Two Souls ist not totally different from what people might know from action thrillers in cinemas but it's the...

Beyond: Two Souls (PS3) Review – How Lifelike Can a Game be?

After completing Beyond: Two Souls, my biggest question has been how to define it. Is it a game? Is it a choose-your-own adventure? Would it have been better as a movie? Creative director David Cage has referred to it as an "interactive drama" and that's probably the best way to describe it.

Was not let down

I personally do not think that any words do this game justice. It is simply stunning and enthrallling from beginning to end. I was rooting for Jodie the whole time and, I'll admit it, got very emotional at some points. It actually felt as though my choices made an impact on the game.

Easy To Learn; Engaging Story Line; Gameplay; Graphics; Great Sound

sucks

Just like Heavy Rain before it, David Cage once again proves that he has no idea what the hell he's doing in film or video games. He has no idea that video games are first and foremost about 3 words. Gameplay, gameplay and gameplay. The rest is icing on the cake.

Simply a great game

I hardly bother to write reviews for anything. On occaision though something is so good I think if someone else, like I did, was doing a little research into a game, it is totally worthwhile to give my take on it.

Ghost trick – Beyond: Two Souls review

The press sheet for Beyond: Two Souls uses the phrase "emotional" nearly a half-dozen times. Special care was made to painstakingly capture the likenesses and actions of real life actors Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe.

A technical marvel; Performances range from good to great; Narrative is fine for a video game

…but that's not enough any more; Player input ultimately doesn't matter; Uses cheap emotional tricks

Beyond: Two Souls (PlayStation 3)

French developer Quantic Dream has made a name for itself pushing the boundaries of interactive fiction in titles such as 2005's Fahrenheit, and, more recently, 2010's Heavy Rain. The latter was particularly noteworthy for its high production values.

Interesting premise for the story; Great production values and actor performances

Interactivity is somewhat minimal overall; Some of the dialogue could have been a little less clich

Beyond: Two Souls review

If the problems and lack of gameplay don't scare you off at the outset, Beyond: Two Souls is simply a must buy. It's beautiful, fastidiously detailed and a focused vision with great performances to drive a touching and sobering story.

+ Gorgeous and meticulously detailed; + Ellen Page's performance is stunning; + Choice shapes characters rather than plot

- Arbitrarily simple gameplay; - Quick time events aplenty; - Choice shapes characters rather than the plot; - Minimal remaster; way too expensive

Beyond: Two Souls Review

No one shies away from the word ‘hate' quite like game reviewers. Somewhere along the line we lost sense of what it was for a game to be critically divisive. My favourite films of this year (Spring Breakers and Only God Forgives) have truly divided people, the critical consensus erring slightly...

This review comes from Digitally Downloaded . review Jodie is a lonely little girl, incredibly bored in the middle of winter. Her mother suggests she go outside and play, though she's not allowed out of the yard. But she sneaks through the fence to join a group of kids in a snowball fight.
