Review: Beyond: Two Souls (PS3)

Four years after QuanticDream's frantic "Press X For Jason" simulator, the company goes all blockbuster with Beyond: Two Souls. The most notable aspect of which is, of course, the inclusion of Hollywood stars Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe likeness, voice and all.

Yep; That's definitely Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe; Some gripping storytelling; but timeline jumping is not for all; Accessible to non-gamers so get the family into this

Fumbling in confusion when you can't tell what you're supposed to do next

Beyond: Two Souls - Review

Beyond: Two Souls is the new "interactive drama" from David Cage, the French writer/director who brought you Fahrenheit and Heavy Rain . Cage's studio Quantic Dream makes a very different kind of entertainment that's almost a hybrid of film and video game: it's all shot like a movie, while you steer...

Technically stunning graphics that really push the PS3 to the limit; Lifelike acting; with a great central performance from Ellen Page; You never know what's going to happen next

The plot doesn't make a lot of sense and the fantastical elements are overdone; The interactive drama format is better at quiet moments than action scenes; There's a lack of really meaningful choices to make

Beyond Two Souls review: 'A masterpiece'

Roger Ebert once infamously dismissed video gaming as a non-artistic medium, but even the legendary critic would have struggled to put together a convincing argument that

Yes, the lead character was called Ellie and she looked like a younger version of Ellen Page, but she was actually portrayed by Ashley Johnson

Beyond: Two Souls review

Sometimes I wonder if the very definition of a video game is too narrow and constricted. In an industry where flinging birds go hand in hand with offing zombies, there are somethings that appear off piece.

OXCGN's Beyond: Two Souls?Review

The visuals in Beyond are another of the game's triumphs. Character models and environments look stunning, really pulling all they can out of the PS3′s hardware. The use of motion capture technology allows the models to look incredible, as do the many effects like snow and supernatural auras.

Beyond: Two Steps Backward

David Cage and the team at Quantic Dream are well known for the cinematic experiences they bring to gaming. This focus took off in 2005 with the paranormal adventure Indigo Prophecy (aka Fahrenheit in Europe) and shined in 2010's murder mystery, Heavy Rain .

Jodie's bond with Cole is heartwarming

Ending options make Mass Effect 3 's end game choices seem brilliant in comparison
