These are really very well made headphones, and good to look at too. The headband is not the traditional type, and takes a while to get used to, but when you do, it feels very natural.

I really wonder what Audio Technica was trying to do with this headphone, as it is tuned to sound artificially colored. The W1000Z is decent for guitar solos I suppose, and bad for everything else to my ears so it has no purpose in my collection.
Visual appeal of the wooden cups
Terrible ringing above 12 KHz that ruins the entire sound signature; making it harsh and fatiguing for songs that consistently reach these frequencies and above
If you want premium closed-back headphones, few can match this Audio-Technica's combination of insightful sound and lovely build
Spacious presentation; Articulate and insightful; Refined balance; well built; Closed-back design
Design may not suit smaller heads

With a design very, very similar to the ATH-W1000X I reviewed years ago, it's clear Audio-Technica hasn't been swayed by headphone design trends of...
Classy wood-grain cups; Large and lively sound; Better isolation than open-back models
Lacking some of the separation of best open sets
For my 20 or so years as an amatuer/working musician, I've never been able to afford more than $125 dollar semi-closed heasphones that would slightly leak into my vocal tracks. These cans look and sound like works of art, with no bleed-over whatsoever.
