More trouble than a sound card's worth

This card has been well reviewed by users elsewhere, but for me it was a bit of a disaster. In fact, of the two serious problems I had with it the fact that it just plain didn't work was the less serious one; it failed to plug 'n' play, didn't show up in control panel and device manager could see...

It makes sound, but the drivers are horrid

Also don't play games using this card, the drivers are so terrible in that it likes to make them crash and indefinitely stutter the sound... If it doesn't make your computer Blue Screen.

If you're down and out on audio devices; grab it

Don't ever raise the volume above 50% or you'll make your ears bleed

Color-coded outputs

I had been using a preamp to digitize my LP collection on an old computer that blew up. This card doesn't have the blue line input. It claims that the first input works for microphone or line in. It works for mic but not my preamp.

Good, but a few flaws

For the price the sound form this is excellent. Unfortunately due to poor customer service from asus and wierd drivers it could be much better. The asus audio center used with the card has decided to stop letting me use the equalizer when in 2 channel mode (despite this being the standard mode for...

Asus Xonar DS 7.1 review

A PCI sound card that we really like? It'll be an ISA graphics card next, if we're not careful

Low profile design; A truly affordable upgrade; Proper 3D sound for games

No Dolby Digital

I have used this card in a few customer builds. They have all been more than satisfied. In the 50 dollar price range, this is the upgrade to get when going from onboard audio. This card is certainly not audiophile grade, but is more than enough for the average user wanting better than onboard.

Sound quality for price; and ability to upgrade opamp section

excellent

A notable difference compared to the onboard sound. Like other have mentioned, download the drivers from the Asus website and installation will be a breeze.

Great, cheap card with DTS Connect support

Perfect card if you want multichannel audio and don't want plethora of cables running around your PC. With DTS Connect which this card supports you can enable all of this via a single, thin optical cable. Great buy at this price.

A lot different to what creative has to offer

I've been using creative soundcards for the past 10 years and thought time for a change after I was not pleased with their last fatality1 card. As soon as I plugged this baby in, the sound was way way different.
