Review: Asus' 802.11ac modem-router brings its A-game

Asus has made a name for itself in the router game, typically providing high-performance units with plenty of flexibility. The DSL-AC68U continues the tradition. It's rated at 1,900Mbps -- that is, a single 802.11AC stream capable of 1,300Mbps, combined with a 2.4GHz stream rated up to 600Mbps.

Asus continues its strong showing with its high performing, extensively optioned router; Its VDSL capability could mean future-proofing for some

The price will sting; and for those with USB plans; you only get one port

Asus RT-AC68U Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 Gigabit Router

If you're looking for an 802.11ac router with great range and throughput, Asus' RT- AC68U Dual-band Wireless-AC1900 Gigabit Router ($199.99) topped our tests on both measures. It's also got solid small business features and a highly polished interface.

Topped our speed and range tests in 802.11ac mode; Advanced features suited for small business; Clean, polished user management interface

Not much benefit over previous models for networks with only 802.11n wireless clients; No automatic notification of new firmware; Non-removable stand

ASUS RT-AC68U Wireless-AC1900 Dual-Band Gigabit Router

Brilliant router works great out of the box but as we have 2 xbox ones in the household I installed dd-wrt firmware and this router is just amazing, wifi reaches every corner of the house at super fast speeds at 5ghz. I knew from reviews what i was buying, every home should have one.

Top Notch Router

All three of the router's antenna have broken off. Really weak antenna. Maybe that was by design but, they snap with about the same force to break toothpicks. Other than that I'm very satisfied with the router. Good wifi coverage around my house. Doesn't seem to crash or slow down. No other issues.

"Rootin'-tootin' fastest WiFi in the west... side of my house."

I have so many things to review, so many things this month that I am completely spoilt for choice, but right now the best gadget in my life is this wonderful contraption I have recently procured from PC World, so I shall start with that.

Really fast; great VPN speeds; stealth mode..

Quite expensive

Asus Asus RT-AC68U

Asus' wireless routers have impressed us when we've reviewed them in the past; the manufacturer has won the overall award in our last two wireless router Labs tests. The RT-AC68U model is the highest specification router we've seen from the firm, offering 802.11ac wireless at speeds of up to...

Hands down the best router for gaming

Everyone knows that ISPs usually give you a pretty bad freebie router (especially the bad modem / router combos) so I did research on the best routers for gaming. Asus's high-end routers compete directly with the Netgear Nighthawk series, but I find Asus's to be quite superior.

+ Ridiculously fast and consistent WIFI speeds; + Ridiculous WIFI range; + Easy setup; + Looks cool

- A bit expensive
