The Apple Watch Series 5 is a great all-around smartwatch. In fact, it’s probably one of the best smartwatches. But I’m actually not convinced it’s the best smartwatch Apple’s ever made (or anyone else for that matter). In fact, I actually think the Apple Watch Series 4 might take that crown.

You might be surprised to learn Apple Watch Series 5 is the first iWatch I’ve tried. I’ve seen previous models adorning many wrists but being an Android user I’ve never been able to experience Apples take on a smartwatch.

Apple Watch Series 5 GPS
Works seamlessly with my iPhone X. As a heart attack survivor, I especially appreciate the included heart app that allows you to take a simple ECG reading. You can also transfer the readout to a PDF document on your phone and email it to your doctor if you wish to do so.

Apple Watch Series 5: Always on Time
The capable wearable now always displays the time of day.
Pros:
- The best smartwatch on the market. Always-on display is a great feature add. New digital compass. “Closing the rings,” the watch’s gamified fitness incentive, is as addictive as ever.
Cons:
- The Apple Watch is still only compatible with iOS devices. No significant performance upgrades.

Apple Watch Series 5
If you aren't an iOS user, meanwhile, we recommend the $200 Fitbit Versa 2 . While it doesn't feature nearly as much in the way of apps as the Apple Watch, it offers an always-on display, accurate fitness tracking, and up to five days of battery life.
Pros:
- Always-on display
- Excellent fitness tracking and heart rate monitoring accuracy
- WatchOS 6 brings useful new apps
- Smooth performance
Cons:
- Expensive
- No built-in sleep tracking
- Battery life remains the same
