Apple Watch Series 4

I am of two minds on the Apple Watch. On one hand, I think that it's the best overall smartwatch you can currently buy. And to that end, the Series 4 -- now available starting at $399 -- is the best Apple Watch to date.

The Apple Watch Series 4 offers a larger, crisp display that shows more with less bezel, superfast speed and a louder speaker; It adds high and low heart-rate detection, fall detection with SOS trigger, and (eventually) FDA-cleared EKG for more detailed heart readings

Starting prices are higher than last year; Battery life still won't last past two days; Watch face options are still very limited in choice and function; Only works with iPhones

Apple Watch Series 4

If you already have an Apple Watch, should you upgrade That depends. If you own a Series 3, I wouldn't rush to trade it in unless you use it to make calls all the time or see the upcoming ECG feature as a must-have feature.

Large screen; Good call quality; ECG capability; Fall detection; WatchOS 5 brings numerous improvements; Stylish

Expensive; Battery life remains unchanged; No built-in sleep tracking

Apple Watch Series 4 Review: This is the one

Has there been a learning experience for Apple quite like the Apple Watch Back when the original model launched in 2015, there was – not unfairly – a sense that Apple itself wasn't quite sure what exactly it should do.

Mesmerizing new display; Fast and smooth performance; Health features could be game-changers; Battery life hasn't suffered

Siri still falls short; Expensive

Sure, Apple Watch is a huge success, outselling all rivals, but there are still a lot of fence-sitters not sure if it's really a worthwhile addition to their Apple ecosystem. And not everyone is a watch person. If this sounds like you, it's time to get off the fence.

Lightning fast; Much larger display; New and improved health features

The price jumped up a lot

Apple Watch Series 4 Review: The Best Smartwatch, Now Even Better

Sophisticated health sensors elevate the Apple Watch Series 4 from fun accessory to must-have device. This is the best smartwatch experience you can buy.

Big; beautiful display; Advanced health sensors; Faster processing power; Useful Raise to Speak Siri

ECG app not available at launch; Expensive

Apple Watch Series 4 Review

The best smartwatch you can buy, a genuine improvement over previous models, and Apple's finest hour in years.

Great design and build quality; Excellent; user-friendly software; Comprehensive; motivational health and fitness features; Can replace your phone for a short time; Plenty of colors; straps; and third-party accessories

Short battery life

Apple Watch Series 4

The fourth iteration of the Apple Watch still looks like a tiny iPhone on your wrist, but for many, it was the most exciting device announced at Apple's event earlier this month.

Bigger; better screen; All old Watch bands fit on the Series 4; Good battery life; Faster performance; Fall detection has the potential to be lifesaving; ECG features give users more control to monitor their health on a daily basis; Accurate auto workout detection and ending feature; WebKit support...

ECG app isn't available yet; WatchOS 5 drops support for Series 0 devices; New complications are only compatible with new watch faces; Still no support for third-party watch faces; Still no native sleep tracking; Siri has trouble completing Shortcuts; More expensive than any other Apple Watch; and...

Apple Watch Series 4 review: the best gets better

The screen steals the show

Great battery life; Huge; beautiful screen; Health-tracking features; not just fitness

Siri is still unreliable; No always-on screen option; Complication options can be confusing

Apple Watch Series 4 Review: Bigger Screen and a Whole Lot More

After two weeks with my Apple Watch Series 4 I'm still glad I bought it, and I was upgrading from the very capable Apple Watch Series 3. The big thing for me right now is the larger and brighter display. The stronger haptic feedback and louder speaker are nice plusses, too.

Bigger and brighter watch face; new heart rate sensors; better speaker; old watchbands still fit

Auto-sensing for ending some workouts is too aggressive; stainless steel models are available only with Wi-Fi plus LTE; settings like Theater Mode still don't mirror between iPhone and Apple Watch; battery life not good enough for back country use

Apple Watch Series 4 GPS + Cellular, 44mm Aluminum Case

The new series 4 Apple Watch is an amazing piece of technology. It is my first Apple Watch and I am finding more features and apps on it every day. I was not a wrist watch wearer for many years and it took me a little while to get accustomed to it but I am loving it more every day.
