Last fall, Apple updated the MacBook Air with a smaller body, sharper Retina display, larger trackpad, and added Touch ID. It was a solid refresh after Apple neglected it for a few years to concentrate on the MacBook Pro .

Retina display now supports True Tone; Quieter keyboard; Touch ID sensor; More affordable than before

Slower SSD versus 2018 model; Marginally faster performance; Good; but not stellar battery life

Apple MacBook Air (2019)

We think most people-especially students who are planning to keep their laptops through four years of college-should make the small compromises required to ensure that they have the extra computing performance when or if they need it, and opt for the MacBook Pro.

Thin, sleek, and light; Excellent design and build quality; Large, accurate touchpad; Very long battery life; Fingerprint reader

Humdrum performance on benchmark tests; Very short key travel on a polarizing keyboard; Limited port selection; No touch screen

Apple MacBook Air (2019) review: the new normal

There's not a lot that's changed with 2019's iteration of the MacBook Air - it's a minor tweak on the major changes Apple introduced last year . It still has a beautiful Retina display - only now it's True Tone so it matches the color temperature of the room.

Touch ID for login; True Tone display looks great; Thin; classic design

Processor can sometimes struggle; USB-C ecosystem still a hassle; Can you really trust this keyboard

Apple MacBook Air (2019) review: The MacBook is dead, long live the Air

The MacBook is dead, long live the MacBook Air! This 2019 version does some key things: in the absence of the 12-inch MacBook, the Air is a far better proposition; the price is £100 lower than the previous year, keeping it more competitive; the keyboard doesn't suffer the extent of issues its...

New keyboard material (which you can't see) vastly improves typing issues of predecessor; Price drop over 2018 model; Large trackpad with Force Touch control; Touch ID login via fingerprint is great; Solid battery life

The keyboard is still rather loud when typing; Only Thunderbolt 3 (2x USB-C) ports and no SD card slot; No Face ID login; Some Windows competition offer smaller bezel designs

Apple MacBook Air (2019) review: more affordable, just as good

Writing up our Apple MacBook Air (2019) review proved to be one of the easier tests we've done in a while, because not much has changed from last year's model, which gave the ultraportable laptop a big update.

Sharp; True Tone Retina display; Excellent battery life; Very snappy to use

Just 128GB of storage; and upgrades are expensive; Uncertain keyboard woes; Dual-core power may limit some

Apple MacBook Air (2019)

While an excellent entry with a stunning new screen, the 2019 MacBook Air's dual-core processor still feels underwhelming. Even with a lower entry price, it's still pricey considering its light starting specification and expensive upgrades.

Lovely design; Screen is great; Fantastic battery life; New lower price

Underpowered; Lack of storage space; Pricey to upgrade; Only two Thunderbolt 3 ports; Expensive

Great laptop for Work and Leisure

Loved this laptop from the moment I saw the colour in person. It was ordered by George at the York Vangarde branch. He was efficient and friendly putting through my order and answering my queries. The laptop itself has a great battery and is lightweight enough to carry around.

Looks good but under powered

Usual Apple ease of set up and use. Apple environment still top drawer. However it is woefully underpowered. I am coming from a near 5year old Mac (whose battery has finally declined I've given it to my son). That was bullet proof for 5 years.

Apple MacBook Air (2019) review

In most respects this is largely the same as 2018's Air - which is to say, it's an excellent light laptop for light use, with a beautiful portable design, excellent battery life and lovely trackpad.
