Alan Wake`s American Nightmare Review (Xbox LIVE Arcade)

Another great game from Remedy that definitely expands the Alan Wake mythology and even brings a little closure. The question is now, where do they go next? Hopefully, somewhere dark and creepy, just like all the other work they've done in the series.

Alan Wake Review (PC)

The 360 hit comes to PC, finally…… Alan Wake comes to PC, with Remedy finally fulfilling the ultimate broken promise: often delayed, repeatedly cancelled, a PC version of the Xbox classic that flew under the radar of so many.
Pros:
  • Excellent creepy survival horror
  • Looks awesome
  • and has great atmosphere
  • Gripping story with nice twists and turns
  • Good
  • yet simple
  • combat mechanics
  • Lots of little extras
  • such as collectibles
  • bonus chapters
  • and expanded story material
Cons:
  • Not massively groundbreaking
  • a little short
  • and lacking in any major replayability
  • leeches some ideas from other classic titles

Alan Wake PC Review

The PC version of Alan Wake has been through quite a ride to finally get a release on the platform. It was originally slated to be released together with the Xbox 360 version, but Microsoft decided that " Alan Wake was a game that was best played from a couch in front of a large TV screen.

Alan Wake PC review

A true Remedy for PC owners or another console port nightmare? Alan Wake has been around on the Xbox for about 2 years now. To those poor unfortunates waiting with baited breath for the PC version who were shattered by the news of its cancellation (and perhaps went out to purchase an Xbox instead,...
Pros:
  • Engrossing and intelligent story with great characters and visual style
Cons:
  • Some graphical anomalies
  • Short-term replayability not likely

OXCGN's Alan Wake Review: A Waking Nightmare

So. Alan Wake. The story of the game's development is almost as interesting as the game itself – a twisting tale of extended production, major design changes, exclusivity deals, removal of the PC version and numerous E3 showings that each displayed a seemingly different game.

This generation's "Eternal Darkness."

So, in the end, I loved Alan Wake generally through and through. While the scare tactics did lose a little punch towards the end, the game remained consistently enjoyable and challenging straight through. The story is great, and again, it's the closest thing we have to a Stephen King video game.
Pros:
  • I'm a horror fan
  • I'm a huge horror fan
  • And one thing that I think is important above all else, is atmosphere
  • Hell, a stellar atmosphere can make up for shoddy acting or iffy writing
  • My favorite movie
Cons:
  • Honestly, this game fires so consistently on so many cylinders that noticing the few bad items isn't exactly easy
  • But there are a couple issues holding it back from true perfection

Alan Wake Review

At E3 2005, Finnish developer Remedy (of Max Payne fame) pulled me aside for a behind-closed-doors view of a freshly-announced title called Alan Wake. While there was little in the way of actual gameplay, the technology they showcased was beyond anything I'd seen to date.
