Alan Wake Is Eye Candy Vs. Substance

When Remedy released Max Payne back in 2001, it had been in the works since 1998, and not many critics, myself included, ever thought the game would ever come out. And even more so, we also believed the game wouldn't live up to all the hype that it generated.

Alan Wake: The Writer Review

At least those of us who played the expansions didn't get a leg up on the disc-only folk. This appears to have been Remedy's goal, after all. From the outset, they've dulled the bold strokes of the Alan Wake concept in a desperation to ensure that everyone got the complete experience.

"Awesome"

I'm usually all about action, but once you get into this my god, it's not only the right amount of scary, it's got the right amount of fun in it too. Seemed a little short, though any longer and it might have dragged. Thoroughly enjoyed it and sad it's over.

Alan Wake

Alan Wake is an odd game, and will probably benefit from being reexamined in a few years. It's not so much a shooter as it is a five-part episode of "Twin Peaks." People who like it call it surreal and dreamlike, and people who don't call it incomprehensible. Both sides are probably on to something.

Alan Wake is an art game for men. Unlike Flower or Braid this game features amazing cinematics, menacing Darkness monsters (à la the Heartless and Nobodies in Kingdom Hearts) and without a doubt the best storyline for a game I have played this year.
