ADATA brings 3D NAND to the portable drive market with the durable and affordable SD700 SSD storage device. Here's our review of it.
Generally speaking, the ADATA SD700 performed very well for a rugged external SSD. We really – really – would have liked to have seen how this device performed without any prior tests, reads/writes, etc.
The SD700 is rugged, fast, and, dare we say, cute? It's not the fastest external SSD, but it's affordable, very portable, and tougher than most.
Excellent design; Fine performance for a USB-based SSD; Quite rugged; with IP68 rating for dust/waterproofing; plus military-grade MIL-STD-810G shockproofing
No software included; No Type-C connector; No way to stash the cable
The rugged Adata SD700 is a good choice if you are constantly on the go and need speedy storage, but other SSDs offer even faster speeds at similar per-gigabyte costs.
Rugged, compact design; Reasonable cost per gigabyte
No USB-C cable; Anemic and outdated backup software
This is a SSD that connects to your computer through an USB port. SSD speeds are downgraded to USB speeds. Please dont waste your money on this. You can pick up a large storage ext hdd at the same cost.
Got this just to have for a little extra storage and quicker loads on certain games for my PS4 like Fallout 4 and Skyrim etc. So far all seems to work fine. Just connected it to PS4 and after formatting it real fast, was good to go.
We included four other portable products in our test pool. The SanDisk Extreme 500 Portable 240GB and Extreme 510 Portable 480GB are other flash-based rugged storage solutions that fit easily into your pocket and take on a less-than-traditional shape.
Excellent design; Small form factor; IP68 rating; High transfer performance; Attractive with two color options; Aggressive pricing
Legacy USB connector technology
Today we have the new ADATA SD700 256GB External Solid State Drive on the BCCHardware test bench. This drive is part of ADATA's rugged line of drives and uses new 3D NAND (stacked TLC flash) to help keep the costs down and the performance quite high.
Decent Read/Write performance on tested USB 3.0 (not USB 3.1) hardware; Included software suite (HDDtoGo) is useful; Rugged enclosure; Lightweight
Performance of USB 3.0 is 640MBps; but drive tops out at 440MBps
When you are traveling or on the go protecting your data is very important. When I travel I always
– Great transfer speeds; – Small and portable; – IP68 dust/water proof & militarygrade shockproof; – 3year warranty
– A typeC connector would have been better
Our USB storage data set is too small for us to produce overall rankings and scatter plots for now, but we can still speak in more general terms about the SD700's performance and price proposition. The SD700 packs mighty file-transfer capabilities into an impressively trauma-resistant package.
