Wild Hearts Review

Wild Hearts ($69.99) is an action-RPG feat, deftly implementing the Monster Hunter series' classic core concepts while introducing new and refreshing ideas. This shouldn't be too surprising, considering developer Omega Force also created the monster-hunting Toukiden games for the PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and PlayStation Vita. Like those titles, the thoroughly Japanese-centric Wild Hearts pits feudal-era hunters against humungous supernatural fauna. Although it isn't a Monster Hunter killer, Wild Hearts is a fine alternative that features an impressive degree of polish. The World of Azuma The Monster Hunter series spawned an entire subgenre that offers a satisfying gameplay loop that keeps you chasing new creatures and gear. Like the games that inspired it, Wild Hearts tasks you with hunting a roaming boss across an expansive map. You master weapon abilities, harvest materials from successful kills, craft new gear from said materials, and then start the process all ...

Wild Hearts is a refreshing take on monster hunting that features huge creatures, cool weapons, and highly useful support systems.

Well-animated, highly engaging fights; Varied and creative weapon types; Excellent map designs that feature impressive verticality; Clever, well-executed Karakuri support system

Camera issues; Some needlessly strict timing mechanics; Occasional frame rate hiccups
