Running 45 of these in a Storinator

We have 45 of these drives that produces 135 TB of raw storage space. These have been reliable, fast and quiet in this unit. The first install of 30 of the drives was over 3 years ago. Only had to replace one drive in all that time!

PRODUCT IS USED AND OUT OF WARRANTY. Went to WD to register it and got warranty expired on 10/5/2016! When I pull SMART data it shows 1735 days power on time! that's older than the PC i put it in!!! DO NOT BUY FROM AMS TECHNOLOGIES INC THEY WILL SHIP USED TRASH TO YOU

Recommended drive for NAS

Bought this to replace a disc on my NAS. Like for like replacement. Hope this one lasts longer than the previous one which developed some faulty segments, but did not crash.

Use it for your NAS

Excellent hard drive for a home media center. I have this drive with next to an HGST Ultrastar and a WD enterprise drive and the WD Red is quieter, so if you have your media center in a place where people are, then the Red drives are a great option.

Working as expected so far

I have a Linux NAS server with 12-3Tb drives. 11 are RAID6 and one is for OS and user account space. Note that this is not a production environment. It is only a home server with very light usage. I originally bought Seagate Model ST3000DM001-1CH166. 8 of them have failed since 2013 (4 years).

Bought 4 drives on February 2013. Installed them on Tyan Thunder n3600b (S2927). The board's raid controller (nVidia nForce Pro 3600) could only see them as 1TB drives. So, I bought an LSI Raid controller (PCIe 8x) and they worked 24/7 ever since (4x 3TB in Raid 5 = 9TB Volume unformatted).

- Very high storage capacity/cost value; - Excellent customer support; - Good reliability; - Low power consumption

- Drive performance (5400 rpm

WD Hard Drives have never given me problems - if this is still working flawlessly in five years I'll edit the review to give it the extra star.

Solid HDDs

I am a novice in IT. I have had four 2-TB Red HDDs in my Synology 411j for the past three or four years. Knock on wood, I have never had a problem. Two months ago, I bought a new Synology 216+ii and put two 3-TB Red HDDs. So far they are working perfectly and I am quite happy.
