What the other reviewers said is true, It works right out of the box. It partitioned into three easily. It is big compared to the 2TB My Passport Ultra that I previously owned as backup for my PC. This 2TB drive did not work for the Mac so I retired it.

Like all previous WD external drives that I've bought, this drive does what is expected of it. It was purchased for Time Machine use to replace a failed Apple Time Capsule. Recommended.
