Velvet Assassin

Rarely do games like to touch on the darker side of things, especially one of the greatest wars in recent history. The early Medal of Honour games, arguably the first mainstream series to tackle WWII espionage, shied away from the gore and sensitive bits, and the grittier side of WWII in this form...

Velvet Assassin

It's World War II, and sexy British super-spy Violette Summer lies at death's door in a hospital. In her delirium, she relives some of her greatest adventures-based very loosely on the life of war hero Violette Szabo, except that Szabo never killed her way through an enemy camp, or took down a...

Velvet Assassin

You have to sit through conversations before the guards separate and make themselves vulnerable; The Nazis are insufferably cultured, and crouching in the shadows while they lecture you on art history proves a true test of patience

Velvet Assassin

Another stealth game comes our way. The virtual tale of the 'Velvet Assassin' is based on activities and endeavors of Violette Szabo, a highly decorated, incredibly valiant Allied secret agent, who underwent several daring missions during World War II.

A dark tale that has its moments; treat this as a sneaker and you'll get some entertainment

Gets dull when you've assassinated 40 enemies the same way; short; lousy shooting sequences; unrewarding missions and one of the most abrupt and generally disappointing endings of all time

Velvet Assassin

Tom Mc Shea sneaks around killing German soldiers in this video review for Velvet Assassin.

Tense atmosphere and moody music; Satisfying stealth combat; Believable characters

Lousy gunplay; Stupid enemies

Dungeons & Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited

Dungeons & Dragons Online: Stormreach didn't exactly turn many heads when it was released in 2006. Launched to mixed reviews and a Metacritic score of 74, it forced grouping, lacked content, and had a very small level cap.

Fast-paced; fun dungeons

Sluggish controls; bland early dungeons

Velvet Assassin

Velvet Assassin is an odd title. It's a run-of-the-mill stealth title that doesn't do much we haven't seen before, and has very little payoff. By all means, I should hate it. Still, I found myself helplessly coming back to the drab world created by Gamecock Media and Replay Studios.

Velvet Assassin

The penultimate level begins with the main character waking up in her underwear in a hospital that has been overrun by Nazis who are looking specifically for her. All her weapons are gone, forcing an even stealthier approach than was previously needed, and there is no more morphine to aid in the...

Before I get too far ahead of myself, let me get rolling by saying that VA is a stealth game, in many ways like the Splinter Cell series of which I am a big fan. It uses a third person camera like SC.

Velvet Assassin (PC)

Released recently on Steam is a little unknown game from developer Replay Studios. Imagine a WWII stealth-like mixture of Thief and Splinter Cell without a massive budget then you get the basic overview of the game.

Velvet Assassin

Velvet Assassin is a difficult game to score. It gets a lot of things right that most games routinely miss the mark on, but then turns around and makes mistakes with certain aspects that should have been gimmes.
