Until Dawn Review – Grab Your Nightlight and Dive Into This Masterpiece

How do you define a game? How do you define entertainment? Can they be defined? In recent years, the lines between games and other media forms have become increasingly blurry – Until Dawn obliterates the line entirely.

Quicktime events (if you happen to hate them

Immersive and engaging

The idea of an on-rails shooter in VR didn't seem that appealing to me when I first heard it, but after I've finally played this game, I can see that I was terribly wrong. VR works great with this title -- the on-rails coaster gives a great sense of movement in places and the ability to look around...

Until Dawn - A Night to Remember

Until Dawn is best described as an interactive film; it's what you'd get if someone made an R-rated movie out of a Goosebumps "choose your own adventure" book. Cut scenes and dialogue make up almost half of the game, and the actual gameplay often comes down to picking one of two options, or...

Genuinely tense; Enjoyable; compelling story; Replayable

Overly reliant on quick time events; Controls a little clunky at times; Much of the tension is gone the second time round

Until Dawn Review

Even though Until Dawn dropped us into the ski boots of perpetually horny, relentlessly hunted teens, I identified much more with their pursuer(s). I violently fluctuated between doing my utmost to get these douchebags butchered like hogs, but then I'd also move Heaven and Earth to keep them alive...

Review: Until Dawn

Until Dawn was originally slated to be released on PS3 as a PlayStation Move exclusive game. The general premise of the game surrounds eight friends who have returned to Blackwood Pines on the one year anniversary of twin sisters Hannah and Beth.

Until Dawn review

The fact that Until Dawn both relies too heavily on QTEs, and is essentially a horror movie you play will probably put a lot of people off. Which is a shame, because if you push past the silly concept of what a game should be and just enjoy what's on offer here, what you'll find is a well-thought...

+ Encourages replayability; + Player choices actually matter; + Pretty decent horror story

- Is a playable movie with QTEs; - Not everyone's going to love it (QTEs; limited gameplay

Until Dawn review

Adventure survival horror Until Dawn had an unconventional path to market, beginning life as a PS3 Move title before getting a new-gen overhaul. Was it worth the effort? Chris emerges from the shadows with the verdict – or is that his evil twin?

Stunning graphics, animation, and strong acting holds the game together throughout; Choices that matter; Consequences that are permanent, and interesting twists on well-established horror mainstays; Mostly though it's scary as hell; Great replayability

Controls and the position shifting camera can be frustrating; Tone uneven in places, and a few ideas don't quite gel

If you're looking for blood, you've come to the right place. Until Dawn splashes the thick red stuff across walls and has it clotting on floorboards. It also throws it into your face: within the game's first 10 minutes, there's blood spilling out from bodies at the bottom of a cliff.
