Toshiba Canvio for Mac

In a crowded hard drive market, Toshiba's Canvio for Mac portable hard drive is remarkable more for its exterior design than its speed. With solid all-around speed, this USB 2.0 drive competes with Iomega's eGo ( ) and Seagate FreeAgent goFlex Ultra-Portable ( ), but does nothing to surpass them.

Reasonably priced…

With impressive looks and stylish design, this hard disk provides the trust of Toshiba. The transfer rate is very fast, but it is comparitively slower than 3.0 USB compatible hard disks. The hard disk avoids heating up even after hours of use and the fan noise just doesn't seem to be there.

Great little drive, seamless with OSX

Great drive, I love the fact it's got a shock sensor and ramp loading technology. Many other big players such as WD and Seagate don't offer this on their budget drives. I love the simplicity and small size of the Canvio. It works seamlessly with OSX Snow Leopard formatted for HFS+.

Great HD for back up

Esay hook up, attached to Windows 7 PC with no problems. My backup software used it without a problem. I like that is usable on USB 2 or 3 ports.

Very Good Portable Hardrive

This is a well priced hard drive with lots of storage. I am your average computer user and had problems with using it to back everything up. It would be helpful if it came with clear instructions on ways to use it.

Attractive Design; Compact; High Capacity; Quiet

A bit confusing to use

Toshiba Canvio Slim II (1TB)

The Toshiba Canvio Slim II offers almost everything I want in a portable hard drive. It's sizeable storage-wise, thanks to a 1TB 5,400rpm spinning drive, speedy thanks to USB 3.0, and offers a surprising number of features for a product with such a minimalist aesthetic.

Stylish design conceals formidable 1TB storage capacity; USB 3.0 connectivity makes it speedy, while preinstalled tools make it easy to back up and protect your data, and jump from PC to Mac without difficulty

USB 3.0 only; No encryption solution

Toshiba Canvio Plus 3.0 1.5TB Review

In our file-copy test, whereby we hustle 30GB of data over its fat USB 3.0 pipe, the Toshiba took second place overall with a time of 10 minutes, 34 seconds, which was almost two minutes slower than the WD drive, but faster than the Adata unit.

Sizable capacity; great software, affordable

Cloud storage trial didn't work; no specs stand out
