The Saboteur Review

Apologies for mangling a quote I can only half remember, but I'm pretty sure someone clever once said the true appeal of fascism is largely aesthetic. That's a fairly depressing notion: the 'philosophy' that reduced so much of Europe to a crumbling cinder was, at least in part, born from Hitler...

EA The Saboteur review

The Saboteur is a different type of WWII game. Rather than playing as an elite soldier, you play Sean Devlin, an Irish racing driver in the French resistance, fighting the Germans in occupied France. The gameplay can best be described as Grand Theft Auto (GTA) with Nazis.

Review: The Saboteur

The Saboteur comes to us from Pandemic Studios, who had a long history in developing sandbox videogames like the

Big (but not; big) open-world gameplay; Over the top; explosive action (Sean Devlin is a bullet-sponge which helps; Graphics really pop; Nazi hunting AND full-frontal nudity in one game

Climbing buildings is like going to the dentist; Stealth aspect is clunky and frustrating; Not much variety in mission/freeplay elements; Disappearing elements (characters) can ruin entire missions and force a restart

Great game

Awesome game for the price, a little rough around the edges but the storyline and open world make it a fun and limitless

The Saboteur review

The Saboteur had potential, but is let down by a weak combat mechanic and some terrible stealth/AI issues. Perhaps a few more months of development would have seen a much better title, but unfortunately time wasn't on Pandemics side with this one.

The colour and art design is a welcome break from typical WWII games; The ambient music and attention to detail is clever, and the storyline is longer than we'd expected; Sometimes even just racing about the countryside can be hugely entertaining

Doesn't feel complete; Combat is unresponsive and simple; Stealth components appear pointless; Just a few too many stereotypes

Saboteur Review

Games set in WW2 are often looked upon as if they are as archaic as the era that they portray. Parallel universes, monsters and paranormal activities tend to be utilised to gi ve reason to the constant use of this time period, it's as if such a monumental occurrence in mankind's history isn't reason...

"Pandemic left us with something special"

As far as Single Player games go, this is one of the best. If you look passed the odd lil bugs here n there like jumping 40 feet in the air when you run into a wooden fence randomly, what you will find is one of the best Single Player games released in a long time.
