At the time I bought this lens I needed a high quality 24-70mm f2.8 or faster, with vibration control. I shoot Canon products and read all the reviews. Canon came up short, and did not have a 24-70mm f2.8 with IS. Canon did have a f4 model, but I needed the extra stop.

Tamron AF 24-70mm f/2.8 SP Di USD VC (Canon EOS) - Full Format Review / Lens Test

I reckon that the Tamron designers had some fun during the design of the lens. Unlike with the Tamron AF 28-75mm f/2.8 SP XR they were not so much restricted by pricing concerns and the positive effect on the results is obvious - the Tamron AF 24-70mm f/2.8 SP Di USD VC is an impressive lens.

Tamron SP 24-70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD review

A popular lens choice for full-frame camera users is the 24-70mm f/2.8 optic, because its range covers general use and the fast aperture is constant throughout the entire focal range. Indeed, most camera retailers recommend it as the lens to buy with a full-frame camera as part of a kit.

Equal to if not better than the Nikon

I bought this on the strength of various reviews in magazines. At the time I already owned the more expensive Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 lens, however I felt my Nikon 24-70 lens gave slightly underexposed results.

Consistent Output; Durable; Easily Interchangeable; Image Stabilization; Lightweight; Quick Focus; Rugged; Sharp Focus; Strong Construction

good image quality but slow autofocus

Great build, feels strong, and weather sealing is good addition. VR is great for low light situation. Autofocus is slow in low light however, and image quality is not as crisp as the nikon.

Excellent Lens

Walk-around, portrait, and indoor lens with fast f/2.8 capability. Replaced (returned) the Sony Zeiss 28-70 f/2.8 for this lens because (a) it cost $ more, and (b) it was 'sloppy' when attached to my Sony SLT A99 at the lens/body interface...it moved at the extreme focal length ranges..

Best buy for the price.

I recently purchased this lens form Ted's. I will keep this review as simple as possible: Build quality: Very good. Compares to Canon 100 f/2.8 macro, and even feels a tad better built. Also comes with moisture sealing which is very important since the lens extends when zooming.

Easy to use

Tamron SP 24–70mm f/2.8 Di VC USD

The Tamron SP 24–70mm f/2.8 Di VC lens is a fast lens designed to work with full-frame cameras (but it will work with smaller sensors, too). It's available for Canon, Nikon, and Sony; however, the Sony version doesn't include vibration compensation (VC) because Sony DSLRs already have that feature...

Image quality; VC; price

Very slight vignetting and barrel distortion

Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD G2 Lenses For Canon - BRAND NEW review

There’s always something to be said for sticking with your camera manufacturer’s own lenses, especially at the top end of the quality range. However, Tamron is now making lenses that offer similar quality at more affordable prices, and this is a great standard zoom lens for full-frame photographers,...

Excellent build quality and handling, Superb 5-stop stabilizer, Mostly sharp with beautiful bokeh

Could be sharper at 70mm and f/2.8, Noticeable vignetting at 24mm and f/2.8

The Tamron SP 24-70mm F/2.8 Di VC USD is distinguished by being the first fast standard zoom for full frame cameras to include optical image stabilization. The fact that it does so in a design that includes a ring-type ultrasonic motor for fast, silent autofocus and a degree of weathersealing...

Extremely good optics; Highly effective image stabilization; Silent; accurate focusing; Impressive flare resistance; Very good build quality including sealing; Competitive price compared to camera manufacturers' equivalents

Unpleasant vignetting at F2.8 on full frame at the telephoto end; Slightly less-fast autofocus than Canon or Nikon equivalents (but far from slow; AF and VC switches rather stiff; difficult to change quickly
