Sony Alpha a6000 review: Excellent performance for the price

The mirrorless interchangeable lens camera segment is heating up. We have seen some really good mirrorless cameras across price segments this year. There's certainly more action happening in this segment and the advanced point and shoot segment, than the DSLRs which are just iterating on set design...

Sony A6000

Not only does this high-res speed demon cram in plenty of desirable features, the Sony A6000 also shaves a couple of hundred dollars off its predecessor's price. That's the recipe for greatness, so it's no surprise this has been one of our most popular reviews in recent memory -- and now, it's...

Amazing image quality for the price; Blazing-fast hybrid autofocus; Swift burst shooting with generous buffer depths; Good battery life with LCD monitor; More compact than a DSLR; In-camera Wi-Fi wireless networking, Amazing amount of quality for the price, Crisp JPEG images with few sharpening...

Continuous autofocus can't match its burst rate; High-ISO JPEGs can look overprocessed; Sluggish startup; No touch-screen display; Wi-Fi can be a bit frustrating to use, Sluggish startup, Soft corners from the kit lens at wide angle, Kit lens produces strong barrel distortion and C.A.

Camera Test: Sony a6000

Recent years have seen some very cool Sony cameras: the first full-frame compact camera, the RX1, as well as the first full-frame interchangeable-lens compacts, the a7 and a7R. In the midst of all that full-frame hoopla, the APS-C-format NEX-6 debuted to relatively minor fanfare, although its fans...

A lot of camera in a small package

This is our 4th a6000, and replaces one that was damaged in an accident. My wife and I each use one, and have one as a backup. It does everything our DSLRs will do, and does some things even better. We use them as our all around camera, but where the a6000 really shines is for travel work.

First, I am not any species of professional photographer. Have been fascinated by light and shapes, and the drama that lurks there when captured aright, since I prowled Southern California rail yards in the late 50s, happy with the (not-new) entry level 35mm camera slung around my neck.

Sony Alpha a6000 (no lens included)

I did lot of research before buying this camera. I have used couple of other DSLRs before buying this. I was really happy that I have chosen this the picture quality I am getting out of this really awesome especially the color tones are very natural.

Light weight and compact with good image quality and fast focus which helps to carry with you wherever you go

Not weather shielded which we cannot ask for this price

I've had this product for around 2 years now, and have been scraping by with it. The camera is definitely lightweight, and is very convenient to carry around; the downside is that the battery drainage makes it so that I need to purchase multiple batteries in order to use it for one whole day of...

I used to shoot RE and church services with my old a58 + kit lens. I needed a wide angle lens to shoot RE and a faster lens to shoot church services. So a friend introduced me the a6000. I borrowed it for a week, shot some RE and test it out during a church service she was also shooting at.

Sony Alpha A6000 review

The Sony A6000 is, in some respects, the older NEX-6 reincarnate. Which puts it in good stead: as far as interchangeable lens cameras go, the NEX-6 was one of our favourite small scale models with a built-in electronic viewfinder, so the Alpha A6000 arrives with high expectations.

Keenly priced; built-in electronic viewfinder; tilt-angle LCD; great build quality; impressive high-res image quality; 11fps and AF-S an achievement at this price

Some autofocus accuracy slip-ups; battery life needs to be better; no touchscreen; JPEG processing a little harsh for higher ISO sensitivities

Sony A6000 review

A superb mid-ranger that puts the "compact" into compact system camera

Incredibly fast; accurate autofocus; Tiny; lightweight and sturdy; Big; clear electronic viewfinder; Impressive still and video quality

No in-body image stabilisation
