While Sigma’s lighter, much cheaper and slightly wider 35mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art lens is perhaps a more sensible option for many, the 40mm f/1.4 DG HSM | Art lens's sterling optical performance deserves high praise.

The Sigma 40mm F1.4 DG HSM is another outstanding prime lens in Sigma's ever-expanding Art range of lenses, although it is big, heavy and expensive. The novel 40mm focal length takes a little while to get used to, falling between the more "normal" 35mm and 50mm focal lengths that photographers are...

Was such a show of force indispensable? I admit there are some problems with answering that question unanimously. There is no doubt Sigma have proved time and again that they are perfectly able to produce excellent lenses.

I don’t think I could have gotten this shot with any other lens, and it’s a testament to the quality and engineering that went into this Sigma 40mm f/1.4. I focused on the flower just to the left of the sun as it peeked over the horizon and it’s sharp as a tack.

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.
