The package came as per predicted time. This is my first time to work with steam powered game. I thought that it would require small data interchange with steam server to validate the key etc.

I bought this last week but I couldn't install because my ISP blocks the ports needed to connect to the steam servers and I cannot play it without being connected to steam. You won't be able to play in offline mode immediately either because you won't be able to play wthout updates.
I am a big fan of Sid Meier and turn-base strategy (TBS). This game has good graphics and is great for road trips. Storyline is solid, with good mechanics and solid multiplayer. I do have four warnings, though.
If you want to play a strategy game or if you have never played a Civ game and want to try one, give Civilization V Gold Edition a try. It contains the vanilla version as well as the expansion Gods and Kings.

Crashed a lot initially but when reloaded worked OK. Great for those who like a really long game and need to think
An amazing strategy game from start to finish. It's been around for a few years now and it has not lost it's spark. There are so many different routes you can take for your civilization and it requires a well thought out plan to conquer the rest.
While the path of peace has always been a more noble and challenging route to take when playing Civilization, grinding through turns to win a cultural victory is crushingly dull when you could be whooping it up as a warlord and stomping all over your rivals.
If you enjoy strategy based games then this game is for you. Select the Leader you want and begin dominating the other leaders on the map. You can select how many leaders you want in the map and also select the scale of the map.
FYI, it also fixes some bugs in Vanilla and G&K (for some reason, the "G-word" trips Newegg's wordfilter) that will not be fixed without the expansion, so you're essentially throwing money at them to add back cut content and bug fixes.
It adds things back to Civ V that should have been there in the first place: trade routes, great works, the world congress..; etc.
They're basically charging $30 for features that were in Civ IV; that 2K probably made Firaxis remove so they could sell it as "DLC" later
