Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (for PlayStation 4)

The problems Resident Evil 7 has with VR don't affect the game itself, which you can always play normally on your TV or monitor. It's a fantastic game on its own, even if you should think twice before putting a headset on to play it.

Fantastic gameplay that perfectly straddles the line between action and survival; Slower movement and a defensive focus keeps encounters tense; Great graphics; Satisfying story; VR enhances horror and shooting elements

Small enemy variety; Randomized enemy spawning can be frustrating at times; Underutilized limb-destruction mechanic; Some under-powered weapons; Cutscenes in VR can make you sick; Interface and graphical quirks in VR spoil the immersion

Resident Evil 7 Review

Resident Evil has been suffering from an identity crisis for a number of years. While Resident Evil 5 's bizarre co-operative structure was the first sign that something wasn't quite right, it wasn't until it traded survival horror for action with Resident Evil 6 that it was made an issue.

Genuinely scary; Immersive atmosphere; Good pacing; Well-tuned challenge; Outstanding audio design

Low replay value; Rough final hours; Tags

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard (VR) (PlayStation 4) Review

For the longest time, it would have felt like Resident Evil was going to end up as a game series that was extremely limited. Every game had to follow the same rules that Resident Evil 4 established: some kind of alpha-numeric "virus," a multitude of cheesy monsters, returning characters doing action...

PS4 Review: Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard is the latest in the survival horror series, but this sets itself apart from the main cast like Leon S Kennedy and Jill Valentine, but puts you in the boots of a guy called Ethan who has tracked down his missing wife Mia to an abandoned house in Louisiana.

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Contrary to what its own demo suggested, Resident Evil 7: Biohazard doesn't fully take Resident Evil away from the elements that made the series what it was 20 years ago. On the contrary, the game has more in common with the very first entry in the series than anything else.

PS4 Review - 'Resident Evil 7: Biohazard'

Buy Resident Evil 7: Biohazard The Resident Evil franchise has a diverse set of tones. The original game was a cheesy B-movie zombie film, and from there, it's gotten increasingly action packed until Resident Evil 6 involves snowmobile chases and dramatic super-powered fistfights where you suplex a...

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard

Resident Evil 7 stands at the forefront of immersive first person horror, proving itself to be far more than the P.T knock-off that the demo initially suggested.

Resident Evil 7: biohazard Review

The Resident Evil series has never been afraid of change. After cementing the very foundations of the survival-horror genre, the franchise moved more

Resident Evil 7: Biohazard Review

This is the main problem I have with Resi 7. I think the decision to emphasise horror over action is the correct one, and I love the puzzling and exploration elements of the game. But I don't think it does quite enough to push the series forward.

NOTE: While I won't get into too much detail about the story, this review will include some very minor spoilers. Also, as I do not have a VR headset, this review does not include anything about the PSVR version of the game I have enjoyed all of the Resident Evil games, including 5 and 6.
