The new Rega Planar 3 turntable – for a lifetime

Rega updates its modestly-priced turntable for all eras, incorporating a number of refinements for 2016. The new Planar 3 is as quintessential as it gets in this realm of vinyl.

Looking better than ever before, and sounding it too, the 2016 Rega Planar 3 takes some beating; It's still one of the easiest turntables to set up and while a little care in siting the unit is demanded (new feet or no, don't go putting it atop your subwoofer, ya?

Look mate, it's a Rega. Unless you pay for the optional TT-PSU, get used to the fact you have to lift off the platter, change the position of the belt on the pulley, and replace the platter and mat when switching from your 33.3 LPs to 45rpm premium re-issues or singles; same today as it was round...

Whereas the motor on the Planar 3 was suspended below the plinth on a pair of elastics, the P3's new motor can be rigidly mounted to the plinth, owing to its much lower...

Rega Planar 3

In the world of hi-fi, Rega is legendary for its turntables, and the Planar 3 possibly most of all. In recent years, this iconic mid-level deck has gone under the name of "RP3", but for 2016 it's been re-engineered and made a comeback as the Planar 3.

Sounds incredible for the money; Dust cover included; Superb tonearm; Lovely build quality

Speed change requires platter removal

Rega Planar 3 Turntable

AVForums Home Hi-Fi Hub > Turntables > Reviews > Hop To What is the Rega Planar 3? Design How was the Planar 3 tested?

Truly outstanding sound quality for the asking price; Well built; Easy to use

Slightly more expensive than outgoing model; No arm VTA; Cartridge very good rather than great

Rega?Planar 3

The Rega Planar 3 is definitely a very good record record player. The sound has a lot of focus, good perspective and deep, controlled bass and an o.k. high range. Dynamically its fine, but does sound a bit harsh at times.

Sound o.k

Lack of tone arm adjustments; Is not that outsatnding in its price tag as it was 20 years ago = TIME
