Rage (Xbox360)

RAGE is yet another post-apocalyptic first-person shooter that will instantly remind you of several other games during both the opening cutscene and the first few minutes of play. It was developed by Id, the creators of Doom, Quake, and Duke Nukem.

This first pro is also the most obvious; graphics. Within minutes of starting up the game the influence of RAGE's new graphics engine becomes clear; the opening cutscene is breathtaking in its detail, particularly the hyper-realistic human hand that appears about half a minute in.

Unfortunately there is a dark side to RAGE's graphics; texture pop-in, (even on consoles!) and murky textures when viewed from up-close. Apparently PC gamers got the worst of RAGE's graphical flaws, but these issues ARE still present in console copies to a lesser extent.

Test Rage

Rage

You're told only that you and your fellow Ark survivors are "special." You're never quite told how, besides the fact that your body is coursing with nanotechnology that allows you to defibrillate yourself back to life if you die. But by the end of Rage, we'd figured it out.

+ Gorgeous graphics; + Satisfying weapons; combat; and controls

? When you click on some sewer areas in the Wasteland; you're told to buy DLC to unlock them?!?

RAGE: The Scorchers (DLC) Review

This is the definition of late to the party. Rage gets DLC, finally, and it isn't half-bad.

+ Plenty of content; + Nice price point; + Nail gun

Too little; too late; Dialogue is still cheesy

Rage: The Scorchers

I was enjoying RAGE before, almost mimicking death itself, it abruptly finished without the option to continue. The Scorchers goes some way to healing the mental wound inflicted on players who were similarly irked by the experience.

Sega Vintage Collection: Streets of Rage Review (XBLA)

Brawlers like these are a niche interest today, but getting three of the best with acceptable online play and other contemporary features for just $10 is an easy choice for genre enthusiasts!

Sega Vintage Collection: Streets of Rage

While Sonic was the face of the Sega Genesis, the system had a wealth of awesome games, including the classic Streets of Rage series. Streets of Rage tasked you to take to the mean streets and clean up the thugs, using your fists, pipes, knives, baseball bats, even phone booths, whatever you could...

Rage

You'll be enRAGEd if you don't experience id's latest gaming opus

Fantastic shooting action that id software is famous for; great driving mechanics with a fully fledged racing game included; subtle RPG elements allow for character growth without being overwhelming; astounding graphics with buttery smooth frame rate; superb AI; excellent multiplayer

No map or customizable waypoint system; a few minor graphics glitches; open world isn't as large as others in the genre; no competitive FPS multiplayer; some long load times

RAGE Review

Fantastic combat and an interesting post apocalyptic world are let down by a feeling that your interaction is only ever surface deep. As a pure shooter its hard to fault (bar the parts where there is no shooting) and all of the side tasks are certainly well constructed, but they never quite connect...

(Xbox 360 Review) Rage

Rage is an enjoyable adventure that features decent gunplay, surprisingly good driving mechanics, and an entertaining if underutilized world. The story leaves something to be desired, not to speak of the weak end area and finale, but for all the stiffness of the characters there is a great variety...
