Port Royale 3: Pirates and Merchants isn't a bad game by any means, it does a competent job in bringing the trade simulation to consoles, but fails to bring much variation in what you do, while the interface is hardly user-friendly for newcomers.

Let's start this review with a sweeping generalisation: real-time strategy games don't work on consoles. They are comfortably at home on a PC, but the sheer act of porting an RTS to a console usually means that a number of compromises have to be made immediately, and the end result is that no-one is...
In closing, this game wasn't really my bag. The story was poorly executed from the cutscenes to the plot and the controls threw me off a little. The game has a steep learning curve and no real incentive for you to continue playing.
Pirate campaign is fun for short while; Different gameplay styles available for those that want it
Poor graphics; Overly difficult combat controls
Qualtiy game it really is a good game and prety cheap now as well. I dont want to compare it with Empire total war cause that is an absolute world class game but that is the only thing comparable to this game.
You start the game off as a Spanish commoner who has just arrived in Port Royale, hence the games name. You will then be sent on a few missions to get you settled into the campaign, a sort of tutorial. After these missions you will meet Elena, the beautiful daughter of the Spanish Viceroy.
Purchased for my husband who enjoys playing games like Sid Meyers Civilization and Patrician. This is similar to Patrician with only a few differences. A little difficult to understand all the movements and options at first but has great tutorials to help with that!
You start off with a single ship and over the hours and days (real time) you grow more powerful. There is enough complexity to enjoy the game for extended times without getting furious at playing (until the pirates show up and you aren't prepared) 5 stars for fun because its kept me entertained on...
This game is far from perfect but it deserves more than it has gotten. This game is slower paced and requires you to think more than most games out there right now, my only complaint is over a while the overly bright graphics can become nauseating.
Very much different than any other game on the xbox. Good tutorials. Easy to learn and use. No real goal to the game. It does get pretty repetitive too.
