Philips Brilliance 499P9H display review: The new king of 5K ultrawide monitors

Philips isn't the most renowned brand when it comes to PC monitors, though the company caters to creative types and professionals who require solid displays. The new 499P9H is a perfect example of this, matching incredible screen real estate with Windows Hello and numerous ports for hooking...

Color accuracy; HDR 400; 5120 x 1440 resolution; Windows Hello webcam; VESA

HUGE size; No 4K

Philips Brilliance 499P9H

It's a great time to be interested in the world of digital displays. A rollable or foldable future is seemingly within reach, and if you just can't wait, there are plenty of fascinating panels already on the market.

Sleeker than multiple monitors; Bright panel with good colour accuracy; 32:9 aspect ratio great for productivity; Integrated multi-client KVM; Convenient USB-C docking; Windows Hello face recognition; Useful stereo speakers

Poor-quality webcam; Basic HDR credentials; Software support could be better

Philips 499P9H 49″ SuperWide Curved Monitor Review

For a number of years, TV-sized monitors were impractical. But technology moves fast. These days, you can find enormous monitors that perform on par with smaller ones. You can even find a few with price tags that won't bring you to tears.

Philips Brilliance 499P9H review: A truly mammoth monitor

The Philips Brilliance is a unique, outrageous screen - but it's not wholly successful. The huge size, width and resolution are undoubtedly a boon for plenty of work scenarios: there's loads of screen real estate for applications that need loads of width, and it'll be easier to work on this panel...

Huge widescreen design; Vast resolution; Great basic benchmark results; Plenty of ports

Poor in some colour gamuts; Inconsistent uniformity; Some design issues; Very expensive

Philips Brilliance 499P9H review: An outlandish monitor

The huge width and resolution of the Brilliance 499P9H are undoubtedly a boon for plenty of work scenarios: there's lots of space for applications, and it will be easier to work on this panel than on an inconsistent multi-monitor setup.

Huge width; Great resolution; Good performance

Lacking colour accuracy and gamut coverage compared to other monitors; HDR is subpar; Poor uniformity

Philips Brilliance 499P9H

Philip's new insanely wide 32:9-aspect 49-inch monitor is packed with practical features, proving that it's much more than just a pretty face

Interesting alternative to dual monitors; Great feature set; Good LCD panel quality

Too big for some desk spaces; Mediocre pixel pitch; Very expensive

Philips has some work to

Unlike other reviewers I do get full resolution from my 2018 15" MacBook Pro, so no complaints there. Also, there is no glare on this monitor. It's phenomenal in that respect - though I replaced a glossy monitor with this one, so it couldn't really get any worse.

high resolution; no glare

awful kvm; camera does not work as advertised; poor quality control

Philips Brilliance 499P9H

This panel has a less powerful speaker system than the Editors' Choice-winning LG 49WL95C-W, and it lacks that model's mini-joystick OSD control. But the Brilliance 499P9H has its own strengths, including its Windows Hello-friendly webcam, and it earns its own Editors' Choice for a large-screen...

Immense ultra-wide screen with 5K horizontal resolution; Bright image; Good color fidelity; Supports HDR; USB-C power delivery; Built-in KVM switch

On the pricey side; Buttons, instead of joystick, for OSD control
