Panasonic Lumix G9 Mark II review

The DC-G9 II offers image quality and autofocus improvements over the GH6 yet offers much of that camera's video spec and its amazing stabilization. We were disappointed with battery life but other than that it's a worthy Micro Four Thirds stills flagship.

Wildlife and landscape photographers who want a portable camera system. Amateur videographers who don't need a GH6

Sports photographers. Those who want to shoot for a day on one or two batteries.

Panasonic Lumix G9 Mark II review

Apple's latest non-Pro iPhone is superb - it's just that it's strikingly similar to last year's effort.

Still an incredible smartphone, Brilliant battery life gets a bit better, Excellent camera system gets a bit better

Last year’s Pro hardware, Wireless charging slow by modern standards, No USB-C; it’s now well overdue

Panasonic Lumix G9 Mark II review

Using and evaluating the Panasonic Lumix G9II was extremely enjoyable. It's a camera built with active, enthusiastic photographers in mind, yet easy enough to use that a flat-out newbie can get great results immediately.

Panasonic Lumix G9 Mark II review

Whether you're a photographer or a video shooter, the G9ii has loads to offer. If you find the compact lenses of the MFT system appealing, this is the body to pair with them; it can do just about anything.

Amazing autofocus, Class-leading IBIS, Fast burst shooting and pre-burst, 5.3K60 / 4K120 in 10 bit 4:2:2, Internal ProRes recording and V Log

Pretty large for an MFT body

Panasonic Lumix G9 II review: a superb wildlife camera

The Lumix G9 line has come a long way in five years, and the second iteration is a more capable all-rounder, and a great choice for capturing action thanks to the introduction of phase-detection autofocus. The G9 II also offers higher-resolution photos, more video recording modes (including ProRes raw to an external SSD) and a faster processor. It's a highly competitive camera, particularly for video, while also offering a sensor format and lens selection that are well suited to wildlife and sports photography. If Micro Four Thirds was starting to feel like something of an anachronism, the Panasonic Lumix G9 II proves that it still has a place with modern content creators.

Panasonic's best-ever autofocus; 8 stops in-body image stabilization; Faster engine improves all-round performance

Sensor resolution doesn't match full-frame alternatives; Viewfinder resolution unchanged from G9

Panasonic Lumix G9 Mark II review

The G9 II is a worthy flagship, packing the best autofocus and subject detection from a Lumix G to date, ultra fast shooting with pre-burst options, excellent stabilisation, great image quality, and seriously good video which in some respects out-rivals the GH6.

Hands on: Panasonic Lumix G9 II review: a superb wildlife camera

It’s no surprise just how far the G9 II has come when you compare it to the G9 – there are five years between the cameras, after all – and the latest model is an even more capable wildlife and sports photography camera. Higher-resolution photos, more video recording modes, including ProRes raw to an external SSD; a faster processor, and phase-detection autofocus; this is a major overhaul from the G9, and in 2023 the G9 II is a highly competitive camera, particularly for video, while also offering a sensor format and lens selection that's well suited to wildlife and sports photography.

Panasonic's best-ever autofocus; 8 stops in-body image stabilization; Faster engine improves all-round performance; Competitive price

Sensor resolution doesn't match full-frame alternatives; Viewfinder resolution unchanged from G9

Panasonic Lumix G9 Mark II review

My first impression of the Panasonic Lumix G9II are that it’s a very capable camera with a nippy autofocus system and responsive subject detection. The ability for it to detect animal eyes is a significant step forward for Panasonic G-series cameras.

Phase detection focusing with subject detection, V-log pre-installed, Hand-held 100MP High Resolution mode

Large for a Micro Four Thirds camera

Panasonic Lumix G9 Mark II review

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.

Clever safety features, Very good battery life, Reliable camera, Fun colours, You’ve got an ageing iPhone: If you’re on an iPhone 11 or older, then the changes here will make a notable difference.

Stuck on a 60Hz display, Minimal differences to the iPhone 13, You’ve got an iPhone 13: The changes from Apple’s previous phone aren’t enough to warrant an upgrade this year.

Panasonic Lumix G9 Mark II review

“The iPhone 14 isn't a huge upgrade compared to its predecessor. But with a great design, screen, performance, and cameras, that's far from a bad thing at all.”

Comfortable, high-end build, OLED screen looks fantastic, A15 chip performs great, Good camera upgrades, Dependable battery life, Helpful safety features

60Hz display, No telephoto camera, eSIM might be a pain for some
