Panasonic has been making quality Ultra HD Blu-ray players since the format's inception, but it's only been since the demise of Oppo that enthusiasts have really started taking the company's higher-end efforts seriously.
The sudden departure of Oppo from the Ultra HD Blu-ray player market has left Panasonic's new flagship DP-UB9000 with little in the way of competition when it comes to high-end 4K disc spinners.
Flawless picture and sounds; Superb 4K Ultra HD playback; Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support; Extensive processing features; Well-designed remote; Fantastic build quality
No SACD and DVD-Audio support; Netflix app plays everything in Dolby Vision; User interface feels dated; It's expensive

Excellent 4k blu-ray player and also does a fine job upscaling normal blu-ray to 4K. Weighs a ton due to the build quality. Not cheap but you can tell the difference. My first thought when unboxing was that someone had bungled the retail price. The UB9000 looks considerably posher than you might expect for the sub-£1K tag. Attention to detail is awe-inspiring. A two-layer steel construction means the deck is reassuringly weighty.
After plenty of research, found it to be the only disc player worth investing in. It is well built, it has a quality appearance, and performs all of the functions it claims it can. Too early to say, but I hope it stands the test of time.
This is quite clear. The Panasonic DP-UB9000 is an awesome Blu-Ray machine. Almost snappy and start up records super fast. Picture and sound quality on top.Tung and well built. Delighted.
The Panasonic DP-UB9000 is the company's latest flagship 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray player and, after Oppo started winding down its competing devices, the new model finds itself in a fortuitous position.
HDR optimisation; Dolby vision/HDR10+ support; Superb build quality
No SACD or DVD-Audio playback; Pricey
Two years is a long time in tech. Even for a relatively niche, fledgling tech such as 4K discs. Two years is how long we've had the excellent , the first 4K Blu-ray player. It continues to do a great job – but time waits for no tech.
