On paper, the GFX100 II might not be enough reason for some photographers to upgrade from a GFX100 or GFX100S, which after all have a sensor with the same 102MP resolution. However, it's an all-round faster machine, capable of shooting at rates unseen before in this format, and sporting class-leading autofocus and in-body image stabilization. Compatibility with various accessories such as a vertical grip also tick boxes the GX100S doesn't, making the GFX100 II the most versatile medium-format camera ever.

The Fujifilm GFX100 II is the best medium-format camera for most people if you can afford it. I still prefer the simpler user-experience and design of the Hasselblad X2D 100C for photography, but the GFX100 II is the most powerful camera in this sensor format available and blows away the competition in almost every other regard, including Fujifilm’s own GFX models. Finally, you don’t need to compromise between ultra-high resolution images or speedy performance; the GFX100 II does both, for photo and video. This is medium-format breaking new ground.

It’s relatively early days but Fujifilm’s GFX100 II seems to set the bar for digital medium format cameras. Its autofocus system is way beyond what we’ve seen before from the format and its subject detection introduces a newly level of flexibility.

The Apple iPhone 14 isn’t a huge upgrade on the iPhone 13, yet it still is a great phone with a top camera, good battery life and all the iOS benefits.
