I was hesitant to buy a case with a door as I felt it would inhibit air circulation but have found this not to be a problem. My last case my hard drives were always hovered around 40 degrees centigrade as I live in a hot climate.
I wanted a new case that could accommodate my tall CPU fan and a DVD writer. And a front panel so I could hide my light grey DVD because it looks ugly. This R5 can takes CPU fans up to 180mm. Check. Has 2 front slots for CD/DVD. Check. Has a full length front door. Check.
Every 5 years I configure and then outsource the build of a new PC for my office work. I always plan on high speck components so they will give me the longevity. It's a bit expensive at the front end, by pays off in year 4 and 5.
A year after I purchased it, one fan started making noise. I contacted Fractal and they shipped a new one immediately. I also called them once asking for technical support and actually got someone answering the phone, no answering machines, didn't have to choose from a menu, no annoying music while...
- very quiet, can't even tell when it's on, ; excellent layout, - very easy to place components in it, - excellent customer service, - excellent support over the phone
- none that I found
I have all 3 cases mentioned above, i kept Fractal R5 design case for my water cooled rig, since it was the only of the 3 that had proper air flow for radiator at top (without modding top).
-The "silent" front was designed correctly with deepset dual side air intakes which prevent air restriction (temps drop only 1 C by opening front versus leaving closed/silent...; assuming all non-used holes closed as explained in cons); The top is vented so no air restriction through top.
-Needs a top filter; like both the Phanteks and NZXT cases have; I spent $15 for a DEMCIFLEX filter designed for R5
Awesome case! Very solid. Modularity is great: bays can be retrieved / moved inside the case to suit your cooling configuration (which can be fixed at the top of front sides). Some lids can be removed to add extra vents.
This case is awesome so many different configurations for water cooling and the movable modular hard drive bays give plenty of options for different setups I love it
This is probably the best case I have come across. Beautifully made, well sound-proofed, solid and easy to work on. The case is slightly wider than most and this allows for better cable management and use of large 3rd party CPU coolers.
All in all a quality case at a very good price, not overstated or too flashy. It arrived well-packaged too, with styrofoam surround and very sturdy box.
There is tons of room, the convertible front opening door, Moduvents, sound dampening material, SSD drives hidden behind motherboard, 3 speed fan controller is another bonus; Not to mention price matching on the case, which saved me almost $50. Blacker than black.
Moduvent tabs are extremely easy to break. Titanium version was out of stock. All steel construction; so it's not as cool as the Lian Li's I'm used to; but it's very good quality for the money. Front door hinges were a bit of an task to swap; due mostly to my large hands and fingers.
Without a doubt, computers are more than just technology – they have become an integral part of our lives. Computers do more than make living easier, they often define the functionality and design of our homes, our offices and ourselves.
- Available in white, black and titanium, - Near silent, - Very clean straight lines and well thought out interior, - Bucket loads of cable management room available, - Integrated fan controller is well designed; also simple to use
- Tons of viable competition at the sub £100 price point; - Very similar to "other" cases on the market in terms of design
