Maps were the number one gripe that most people had about the original Final Fantasy XIII, and with good reason. Every map you encountered (save for the Archlyte Steppe) was like walking through a tunnel, none of the mostly open-ended maps Square put into most previous Final Fantasy's.

I'm a pretty terrible con writer, because it takes a lot to frustrate me in a game; If I was being ~extremely~ nitpicky, and this pretty much only applies to me, I'd say that the fact that you can fly when you use the launch command to attack enemies in the air, and yet are not able to do it...

This was my first experience at jrpg games and I was totally blown away by the sheer production value and content in the game. I would recommend it to anyone who hasn't tried a final Fantasy game yet

The Final Fantasy series has been on a slow, steady decline since FFIX almost brought Square back to the elements that made the franchise great to begin with. It's an okay addon for a good game. At least you can see how Lightning ending is and enjoy a gorgeous fight against Caius... But not much more. A fight, some cutscenes and that's it.

2010's Final Fantasy XIII received a mixed critical reception. Chief among the complaints was the ditching of the series' usual side-quest-packed open-world structure in favour of a linear journey filled with desolate environments that offered the bare minimum of distractions.

Sometimes, you just want to turn back the clock and try again. Square Enix clearly did with the spectacular but overly linear Final Fantasy XIII because Final Fantasy XIII-2 is all about jumping back and forth in time. We find ourselves once more on Gran Pulse, three years after the end of FF XIII .

Phew! I was standing in the bath holding the toaster there for a second but it's all going to be okay. Final Fantasy XIII-2 is a vast improvement on the travesty of the last game . Unlovable characters have been replaced by a more pleasant cast.

, but not everyone felt the same way. The contentious entry saw dungeons become long, linear paths and towns and sidequests a forgotten distraction. Even if underneath that was a brilliant combat system, an endearing cast and a strange futuristic world filled with ancient secrets, it was obvious...

At this point, there's nothing I can say about Final Fantasy XIII that hasn't already been discussed at length by players far more knowledgeable about the series than I am. For me, it was linear, lifeless, and had a ridiculous story told with unlikeable characters.
