Having played this game for a few hours, I simply cannot see how it justifies the £40 price tag! First off, EA Sports raved about how it would be including all 202 nations that attempted to qualify for the World Cup, and they were all official. Well prepare to be disappointing.

This summer in June, 32 of the world's best soccer teams are descending on Brazil, home of the beautiful game, to determine a champion. And like every time before, EA sports has released a special World Cup edition of its annual FIFA Soccer game to commemorate the occasion.

Game itself is great, but I was unaware that you cannot play a regular season but only the fifa cup series.

Everything in the package was fine

The World Cup is an event unmatched by anything else seen in sports. Not even the Olympics touch the enormity and fanatical breadth of the World Cup. The whole world truly watches this one month tournament played every four years.

Four years ago I reviewed the last World Cup game from EA, and now it is time to look at how much the game has changed. With the next generation and digital downloads en vogue, it is interesting that EA chose to make this game available on disc for the last generation of machines.

Every four years EA Sports gets to triple-dip and, essentially, sell three soccer games within the span of a year. The World Cup game is usually diminished in some aspects, serving as a side story to the generally substantial offerings in the annual releases.

Has EA Sports managed to replicate the spectacle and excitement of this summer's tournament?

Nice presentation that captures the mood of the tournament; solid football game underneath; decent range of modes and options

Too expensive considering the brevity of its relevance; no series progression

Not as feature-packed as FIFA, but nothing will get you hyped for the World Cup like this. If you are okay that this has been designed to only be played for a few months, you'll find enough here to keep you gripped with World Cup fever.
